I’m not sure it is a good step. Not towards long term goal of ending prohibition completely. Any negative impact will be seen as proof that the drug war needs to be fought harder
If a step by step approach is the way, I would start with heroin, full legalisation.

Westminster must wake up to this reality with the exceptions of a few politicians who do actually care about drug policy reform, there must be a complete overhaul in the way we treat people who use drugs. The current punitive approach is counterproductive and harmful.

Exactly right, decriminalisation by itself decriminalises the user which is good, but if supply is left unregulated, this still opens people up to the higher risk of drug poisonings from the black market. Politicians need to address these policy reforms.

If it purely designed to fail then it will do exactly that.
The same dirty unregulated drugs will be widely available on the black market making everyone sick or worse .
Legal and regulated is the way forward and being able to have drugs tested at pharmacy

The tragedy of Scotland's drug deaths crisis is part of a UK-wide problem. The usual terrible BBC reporting evades any discussion of alternative #drugspolicy. On any other issue, experts would be consulted and different approaches considered. Ultimately, the only solution is #regulation of drug markets.
