I delivered today an opening statement at the “High-level Meeting on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response.” I stressed that pandemics preparedness is crucial for advancing the #2030Agenda. It can advance progress across #SDGs, reduce inequalities and vulnerabilities. This calls for integrated and adequately financed action, with equity and sustained investment in resilient health systems, technology access, prevention and early warning. #GlobalGoals

At the Ministerial-Level Meeting of the Ad Hoc Advisory Group on Haiti, I stressed that, as the #2030Agenda for Sustainable Development reminds us, there can be no sustainable development without peace and no peace without sustainable development.  To restore stability in Haiti, we need to address the root causes of instability in a comprehensive, coordinated and sustained manner. It was a pleasure of participating in the handover of the Presidency of @UNECOSOC and meet with Amb. Lok Bahadur Thapa (@LokThapa2071), former President of #ECOSOC, as well as the outgoing and incoming Bureau members of the Council. It is an honour and privilege to assume the Presidency of ECOSOC for its 2027 session. Congratulations to #Algeria for assuming the Presidency of the @UN Economic and Social Council (#ECOSOC) for its 2027 Session, with Ambassador Amar Bendjama, PR of Algeria to the UN, elected by acclamation today, by the Council. This role underlines Africa’s dedication to sustainable development and addressing global challenges in line with #Agenda2063. Given that 14 African countries are members of the ECOSOC, this will help increased coordination to promote African interests. Had the pleasure of meeting today with H.E. Ms. Annalena Baerbock, President of the General Assembly (@UN_PGA) as I conclude my Presidency of @UNECOSOC. It was an honor working with her throughout the year, and I deeply appreciated our close cooperation and regular exchanges during the 80th session. We reflected on the important milestones achieved, including the successful #HLPF, and ongoing institutional processes such as the #UN80 initiative. We also reaffirmed the importance for strengthening multilateralism and accelerating implementation of the #2030Agenda and #SDGs.

Had a productive meeting with Ms. Tatiana Molcean, Executive Secretary of @UNECE. We exchanged views on the outcomes of #HLPF2026, the important role of regional commissions in accelerating SDG implementation through evidence-based policymaking and regional cooperation, and opportunities to strengthen collaboration between ECOSOC and UNECE in advancing sustainable transport, energy transition, resilient infrastructure and data for sustainable development as we work toward the 2027 SDG Summit. #SDGs

I addressed the High-level Meeting on Global Road Safety, emphasizing that road safety is not only a transport issue, but also a development, public health, social justice and climate issue. I stressed that transport decisions shape public health, urban development, economic opportunity, environmental sustainability and social inclusion, requiring coordinated action across sectors. Let us build transport systems that put people first and accelerate implementation of the #SDGs. #RoadSafety

Met today with H.E. Mr. Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, Chairman of Pakistan’s Prime Minister’s Youth Programme. We discussed the importance of investing in young people through education, skills, entrepreneurship and decent work to accelerate the #SDGs. We also highlighted the need to strengthen youth participation in decision-making and advance digital inclusion and innovation. We look forward to working together toward the SDGs Summit 2027 to accelerate implementation of the #2030Agenda.
