NEW: Federal prosecutors say they are looking for anyone — including Americans or U.S. businesses — who may be providing material support to cartels designated as Foreign Terrorist Organizations. Asked whether U.S. citizens or American entities could face terrorism charges for providing money or other support to the cartels, @USAttyReitz said there are no active charges currently being brought against Americans or American entities — but made clear investigators are looking on both sides of the border. “We are interested in finding anyone, whether on this side or the southern side of the border, who’s providing material support to these foreign terrorist organizations.” Asked whether that could ultimately include Americans, he responded: “Yes, absolutely.” “We want to bring to justice anybody who is aiding, abetting, providing material support to foreign terrorist organizations.”

A 21-year-old Mexican national accused of working as a hitman for the Gulf Cartel has been indicted on federal terrorism-related charges after being arrested while crossing into Texas. Prosecutors allege Jose Flores Flores admitted to working as a “sicario” for the cartel and was involved in surveillance, enforcement, and the disposal of human remains. @USAttyReitz
