Think about it from an engineering standpoint. Quad stack to double feed = 2 funnels Quad stack to single feed = 3 funnels each funneling step adds friction, which means more spring force needed to overcome the friction. Plus a stronger mag body (and feed lips) will be needed to hold this extra spring force. Quad to single stack has 50% more funnels, so 50% more friction, plus the complexity of the follower that has to be able to navigate the extra funnel. Frankly, the main (and maybe only) benefit of a single feed mag is that the top is compact, and can fit between slide rails, and other compact areas that a design may require. If a gun design can handle the width of the double feed mag, then it ideally should use one. It is just generally better IMHO.
