What stories existed before and after colonial rule in Rwanda? Day 3 of #TheMuseumsLab2026 took fellows into Rwanda’s pre-colonial and post-colonial histories through the Ethnographic Museum and King’s Palace Museum exploring material culture, archaeology, traditional practices, royal heritage and the histories that shaped Rwandan society. These encounters invite a broader understanding of what it means to represent a society’s past: whose histories are collected, how they are interpreted, and how museums can help audiences encounter histories beyond colonial frameworks.
