Verci is launching its first Student Fellowship tomorrow. Free, and open to students at any school. Reply "link" and I'll send you the application early, before applications open publicly tomorrow. When I started building, there was no structured path to follow. I kept making things, breaking them, and eventually things clicked. I also shot my shot everywhere while I was building because I wanted to increase my surface area for luck. A lot of those cold emails and DMs went nowhere. Some turned into real relationships, and a few turned into mentorship that changed a lot for me. Getting into Kappa Theta Pi first semester and @V1Michigan second semester came out of that habit, and this heavily accelerated my growth. Upperclassmen and alums answered my questions and pushed me to build harder projects. I don't think I'd be where I am now without those rooms. Every school has some version of that. They're just hard to find as a freshman. So we're building one that anyone can apply to, no matter where they go to school. Even if you're a dropout, fresh out of school, or even a super ambitious high schooler with big dreams. @vercinyc itself is a community for builders and creatives with spaces in NYC and LA. The fellowship is the student version of it. One semester, 20 students from different schools. You get: - a mentor - a mastermind group of 4 to 5 people - a retreat in the Catskills - workshops on building an audience, fundraising, anything you're stuck on - ambitious people to talk to about what you're building - access to the NYC and brand-new LA Verci spaces Regular applications open tomorrow. It’s funny to say this now that I’m on the community team at @V1Michigan , but I did not enter college as a very social person. It was just one of those things, but I knew it had to change. There were too many interesting people at Michigan to miss out on if I didn’t put myself out there. And while saying yes to nearly every opportunity has its costs (taking EECS 281 and 370 with 8 other credits while rushing clubs is definitely not the move), it’s hard to overstate how good you can have it at college. There aren’t going to be half as many chances after this to a) be around ambitious people, b) be around smart people who are inclined to meet other people, and c) explore different opportunities without any real personal, professional, or financial risk. Which is why I joined the community team at V1. It’s a chance to take my interest in startups and building to help create events that ANYONE at Michigan can come to, whether you want to meet new friends, other builders, or actual startup teams. "Bro chill, you got time" is what I heard every time I brought up college, or what I wanted after it, starting sophomore year of high school. I hated that response. I wanted advice on how to get where I was trying to go. Nobody around me was really asking those questions either, so I mostly figured it out alone. I had to convince the head of the math department to let me into a class two years early. Even then, most upperclassmen told me I was doing too much. It put me ahead academically. But it didn't put me around anyone chasing the same goals. Two years later I walked into V1's Open House, not really knowing what to expect. I remember being shocked at how many people there were, all drawn to the entrepreneurship and tech side of things. We split into circles and I just listened. People talking about companies they'd started in high school. People building stuff purely because they wanted to. The senior advisors running the event had already done things I'd never seen anyone do before college. And yet they were so humble and easy to talk to. Answered any question, no matter how dumb it was. This is what I've been missing. That was the only thought I had for the next week. A lot of the people I met that night, I kept running into again and again. Several ended up joining V1 or other clubs on campus, and we just stuck together because we wanted the same things and kept showing up for each other. I'm close with a lot of them now. That’s part of why I picked up this growth role on V1's marketing team. I want to find the next kid standing where I was at Open House.
