THE 12 JANUARY CONUNDRUM JUST GOT WORSE Two documents. The same date. And one question the Metropolitan Police (@metpoliceuk @MetCC) and NPCC (@PoliceChiefs) may now wish to explain. On 12 January 2022, the NPCC Chief Constables' Council received an Operation Talla Covid-19 Update. The minutes record: “A crime report was made to the Met and the final assessment should be complete next week when a clearer steer can be communicated.” Read that carefully. The final assessment should be complete NEXT WEEK. The formal action was equally revealing: “Op Talla team to share the results of the peer review assessment relating to the Crime Report submitted to the Met Police in relation to Anti-Vaccinations with all chiefs.” So, on 12 January: The Met crime report was being discussed nationally. Its final assessment was apparently still to be completed. A “clearer steer” was thereafter to be communicated. And the Op Talla team was to share the peer-review assessment with all chiefs. Now look at what happened that very same day. At 8:35pm, Detective Inspector Akshay Chibber, Staff Officer to Commissioner Cressida Dick, wrote to Mark Sexton concerning that crime report, 6029679/21. He said: “It has subsequently been closed and will not be investigated any further.” And then: “I'm afraid allegations against the Government's Covid regulations and vaccine programs are not a matter for the Met police to investigate as allegation of a criminal offence.” Stop there. How could the Commissioner's Office tell a complainant on 12 January that the allegation had been closed and would not be investigated further when, on 12 January, the Chief Constables' Council was being told that the “final assessment” of the Met crime report should be completed the following week? And there is a second question. If the “clearer steer” was to follow completion of that final assessment, what was the source of the categorical policing proposition already communicated by Chibber that evening: Allegations concerning the Government's Covid regulations and vaccine programmes were “not a matter for the Met police to investigate as allegation of a criminal offence”? These are not recollections reconstructed four years later. These are contemporaneous documents bearing the same date. One indicates: final assessment next week for a clearer steer. The other indicates: closed, no further investigation and not a matter for the Met to investigate as criminal offending. So now the question becomes unavoidable: What happened on 12 January 2022 and who, or what, had already supplied the Commissioner's Office with that policing position? Whilst the documents are speaking to us, the institutions remain mute.
