TANZANIA imewataka Nchi Wanachama wa Mkataba wa Nairobi kuchukua hatua madhubuti na za pamoia kukabiliana na mabadiliko va tabianchi, uchafuzi wa bahari na matumizi yasiyo endelevu ya rasilimali za baharini. Waziri wa Nchi, Ofisi ya Makamu wa Rais (Muungano na Mazingira) Mhe. Mhandisi Hamad Yussuf Masaun ametoa wito huo wakati wa Mkutano wa 12 wa Nchi Wanachama wa Mkataba wa Nairobi (COP12) unaowakutanisha zaidi ya wajumbe 500 kutoka eneo la Bahari ya Hindi Magharibi ulioanza leo Oktoba 6, 2026 <ituo cha Mikutano cha Kimataifa cha Julius Nyerere JNICC), iijini Dar es Salaam. Mhe. Masauni amesema changamoto zinazoikabili oahari zimeongezeka kutokana na mabadiliko ya tabianchi, yanayosababisha ongezeko la joto na tindikal katika maji, hali inayotishia miamba ya matumbawe, uvuvi na maisha ya jamii za pwani. Amesisitiza kuwa uchafuzi wa plastiki na matumizi yasiyo endelevu ya rasilimali vinaendelea kuharibu mifumo ikolojia ya baharini, hivyo maamuzi ya COP12 yanapaswa kujengwa katika ushahidi wa kisayansi na <uelekezwa kwenye utekelezaji wa hatua za kitaifa na kikanda. Waziri Masauni amesisitiza umuhimu wa kushirikisha jamii za pwani, wanawake na vijana katika sera na mipango ya uhifadhi, akisema changamoto hizo zinahitaji majibu yanayounganisha uhifadhi wa mazingira, maisha ya wananchi, usalama wa chakula na uchumi wa buluu. Alisema Tanzania katika kipindi cha uenyekiti wa Mkataba wa Nairobi imesimamia hatua mbalimbali, zikiwamo kukamilishwa kwa Itifaki kuhusu Bioanuai za Baharini na Maeneo ya Pwani na Hifadhi, Mpango wa Kikanda wa Dharura za Mafuta na Mkakati wa Kikanda wa Plastiki na Kemikali Zinazohusiana Nazo. Aidha, Tanzania imeanza kuandaa Dira ya Kikanda na Mfumo wa Utekelezaji kuhusu Bioanuai za Bahari katike Maeneo ya Nje ya Mamlaka ya Kitaifa (BBNJ), huku oaadhi va nvaraka hizo zikitarajïwa kuwasilishwa kwa ajili ya kupitishwa katika COP12

LHRC Meets IPU Delegation from Norway 🇳🇴🤝🇹🇿 The Legal and Human Rights Centre (LHRC) held a meeting with an IPU delegation from Norway to exchange views on key issues relating to human rights, democracy and the rule of law. The discussion reflected the long-standing strategic partnership between LHRC and the Embassy of Norway @NorAmbTZ which has supported and collaborated with LHRC over the years in advancing human rights and democratic governance. The meeting provided an opportunity to reflect on shared areas of work, experiences and emerging challenges, while exploring opportunities for continued collaboration in strengthening human rights protection, democratic participation, accountability and the rule of law in Tanzania. On the ground, LHRC is tirelessly working for a just and equitable society by offering free legal aid clinics, aggressively dismantling Gender Based Violence (GBV), and securing women's economic empowerment.
