My 3rd game of Day 4 at the
@WVSHOOTOUT was an absolute barn burner between Hurricane and Morgantown, and no one in that gym expected the dynamite show we were about to witness. You could argue Morgantown might have still been feeling the effects of that emotional double- overtime war against Ashland, but Hurricane did not care about circumstances. They came to win. They came to test the standard. And everyone knows nothing changes the reality that Morgantown is still Morgantown. Even when they are not at their sharpest, it takes a massive effort to beat them.
Hurricane came ready to deliver that effort.
They threw the first punch and then braced themselves for the storm they knew was coming. After one quarter Hurricane held a 19-14 lead behind the scorching start from #10 Parker O’Dell, who poured in 10 points in the opening frame and set the tone early. Every touch looked confident. Every release looked clean. He was looking for quality shots and knocking them down with authority.
The second quarter only cranked the intensity higher. The Hurricane student section was rocking, waving, shouting, stomping the bleachers with every possession. The stands were electric. Every defensive stop felt like a championship moment. Every made three sent a shockwave through the building. The battle stayed fierce, bodies hitting the floor, shots contested, momentum swinging, but Hurricane maintained a slim 32-26 lead heading into the break.
Then the third quarter hit and it felt like the entire energy of the game shifted. Morgantown came out on a mission. Their defense tightened. Passing lanes shrank. The ball pressure increased. It felt like a warning shot for what was coming. The pace picked up and the physicality turned up another level, setting the stage for an absolute war in the fourth quarter.
For Morgantown, #1 Max Frey flipped the switch. He turned up the heat and willed his team within 2 multiple times, attacking gaps, knocking down tough shots, and refusing to let the game slip away quietly. You could feel his urgency. You could see the fight. But Hurricane would not fade. Not on this day.
For every big shot Morgantown delivered, one of the O’Dell brothers answered. Parker kept firing with confidence, stretching the defense and burying shots from deep. Older brother #2 Carson O'Dell(
@CarsonODell_02) matched that fire, stepping into threes with no hesitation and raining them down in rhythm. It became a heavyweight exchange. Punch for punch. Shot for shot. The crowd rising and falling with every possession.
Right down to the final seconds, Hurricane stayed composed. They closed it from the line, sealing a massive 60-56 win in front of a student section that was absolutely losing its mind.
Parker O’Dell led the charge with 25 points on 5-8 from three, adding 1 rebound, 3 assists, and 2 steals in a performance that blended shot making with poise under pressure. Carson O’Dell poured in 20 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, and added 1 assist while going 4-8 from deep, giving Hurricane a lethal one two punch from the perimeter.
Max Frey led Morgantown with 17 points, 5 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block, battling to the final horn and keeping the pressure on every step of the way.
This was not just a game. It was intensity. It was belief. It was a roaring student section, and two teams refusing to blink. Hurricane did not just survive the push. They stood tall and finished it.
