Here are the graves. This Orange Shirt Day we are returning the Brandon Indian Residential School cemetery grounds to the Sioux Valley Dakota Nation on behalf of many First Nations whose children are buried here. This is one of the most well documented burial grounds at a residential school in Canada with not only church and historical records but also contemporaneous newspaper articles describing what happened to these children. You can not deny history. #orangeshirtday #everychildmatters #truthandreconciliation #trc #herearethegraves

What exactly is the problem with having a cemetery for the burial of children who died from sickness or freak accidents?

Standing in front of a bunch of marked graves really does not prove the existence of unmarked graves.

So why did the tribe take millions of dollars for the purpose of excavating bodies of 215 supposedly murdered children in “unmarked graves” in Kamloops and never excavated a SINGLE ONE? Just pocketed the money, now you’re doing this shuck and jive routine? You should be ashamed

There were no mass graves. There was no genocide.

And where is your evidence that Catholic priests and nuns murdered and tortured them all?

Those graves aren’t being “hidden” because they died of natural causes and were given a respectful burial. The claim being made is that Canada’s Catholic Church used residential schools and churches as mass graves, placing bodies in basements and genociding hundreds. Which is not true. No one denies residential boarding schools they are denying that they are genocide camps.

How many of these children were murdered? How were they murdered? Who murdered them? Have all of the bodies been recovered and identified?

The Kamloops claim is a suggestion that nuns and priests murdered children and clandestinely buried them. There is NO EVIDENCE that children were murdered. Are you really this thick, standing in front of a graveyard wherein children are buried who died of documented illness and/or accident, and suggesting this is proof of the 215 claim?

So.... kids died of diseases and were given a proper burial in a cemetery and it's documented. And that's your proof for so-called unmarked mass burial?

For the children buried at Brandon, the primary recorded causes of death are: Tuberculosis / consumption Pneumonia and other respiratory illness Epidemic childhood infections (scarlet fever, measles, influenza, typhoid, diphtheria) A small number of accidents (tractor, lightning; plus travel drownings not buried at the river cemetery) The conditions that made those deaths so common—crowding, poor sanitation, malnutrition, farm labour, and sending already-infected children into dormitories—are also documented. What is not documented as the primary cause in the surviving administrative record is a mass of hidden homicides. Because that never happened. If we are going to demand "truth and reconciliation" lets start with truth. The residential schools were horrible... But the claims of mass graves from hidden homicides is completely false.

Happy Truth & Reconciliation Day. In the spirit of actual truth, remember Haida Chief Albert Edward Git’ahljuu Edenshaw. By 1850 he owned 12 slaves. His father-in-law tossed in 10 more as a wedding present. Every child matters. Orange shirts honour “survivors.” If truth only travels one way, it isn’t truth. It’s full-on propaganda.

If “here are the graves” is the standard, then every 19th- and early-20th-century orphanage, industrial school, and poorhouse in Canada should have a national day of reckoning too. Those children also died of tuberculosis, influenza, and pneumonia at rates that would horrify us today—yet we don’t treat every institutional cemetery as proof of a unique, targeted crime. Diseases that affected both first nations and white Canadians doesn’t become genocide only when the building was a residential school. Consistency or spectacle: pick one.

Nobody denies that children died in the school system, primarily of diseases like tuberculosis. On the other hand, tens of millions of dollars have been wasted on the Kamloops hoax, which has not turned up a single grave and become a national blood libel. For there to be truth and reconciliation, lies must be dispelled and slander must be addressed.

No one is denying that kids died, it’s the murder part that is in question. European children died in the 1800’s and early 1900’s too. Medical care was not as it is now and children died as a result of disease, infections etc. do European child lives matter too?

So the 215 bodies that you add you hadd found in Kamloops turned up 1450 km away in a cemetery in Brandon? That checks out. How much do I owe you?

Nobody denies that children died. However, they didn't die because of the institutions, they died from causes that are undetermined by fact & evidence. You cannot recreate history without actors, and you sir, are an actor.

Preach brother. First Nations children were murdered en masse at residential schools by methods including electrocution in electric chairs, hanging from the school flagpoles, and even crushing under steamrollers. We must never forget this genocide and we must certainly never tarnish the victims’ memory by demanding evidence. As we well know, evidence itself is a white supremacist concept and must be rejected in favour of Spoken Truth of Survivors.

It’s 2 separate Christian cemeteries. The children died from the tuberculosis that they had contracted while living on the TB infected filthy reserves. They brought the bacillus with them in their lungs when they came to the school. You’re grandstanding on the graves of children.

I had a convo the other day. It was suggested that they are only looking at kamloops when they make these claims that no bodies were found. Which is the most ignorant argument they can make as saying nothing was found means across the country, but they are only referencing a single plot of land at Kamloops. Its their way of saying they lost the argument and are just going to keep pointing at that one site. Id say just ignore these ignorant people and give them no more attention.

At Brandon, the recorded causes of death for children were tuberculosis, pneumonia, childhood epidemics (measles, scarlet fever, influenza, etc.), and a handful of accidents. Those conditions are documented. Claims of mass graves from secret killings are simply false. Truth first

Truth be told, the children shown look to be treated very well and getting an education which they wouldn’t be getting on reserve. Some died from natural causes and others from accidents and acts of nature. They were given a proper burial and documentation. Where is the tragedy?
