Right now, Portland has 35,000 vacant market-rate apartments and 1,900 vacant affordable apartments and 4,500 homes for sale. That doesn't suggest a housing shortage—it suggests an affordability and economic opportunity problem. The real issue is that the City of Portland has failed to create an environment that supports job growth, living-wage employment, and a strong local economy. Ironically, many of the policies intended to address affordability have also contributed to Portland's high cost of living. Government should focus on the fundamentals: public safety, addressing the mental health and homelessness crises, creating conditions for living-wage jobs, and improving quality of life. A strong community starts with opportunity, and opportunity begins with a good job.

You combine those three and what we have is the perfect deadly storm. Approximately $8 billion of taxpayer money has been spent in combined Oregon state + Multnomah County behavioral-health/mental-health-related budgets which puts Multnomah County the highest per capita spending on mental health anywhere in the country yet we have the worst results and the humanitarian crisis of mental health and addiction growing every day on our streets. This is not a funding issue, it’s an accountability issue and gross negligence of prior and current county chairs not creating a viable mental health delivery system. You don’t deserve re-election. You should be arrested and tried for gross negligence in your duty as chief executive Officer for the state of Oregon. 40 years of single party rule by Marxist democrats like you has destroyed our once thriving state.
