How it works: A task becomes sensory input, activity spreads through the mapped wiring of ~3,000 larval neurons, and the output scores 13 moves like investigate, review or stop. A plain rules layer and permissions stay in charge. The fly proposes. It can't act on its own. Both larvae and adult male flies were used, and in both cases, we got similar results. What we found: A hand-written rules router matched an LLM planner's answer quality on completable tasks, used 39% fewer tokens, and was the only planner that stopped correctly on blocked or finished tasks (7 of 7). The fly's real wiring did no better than shuffled wiring. Why post a null result? Most "neuro" AI claims never run the control.
