Question Time was very Question Timeish last night but I wanted to end by giving a shout out to the small business people slogging their guts out. They are the people who give me hope - resilient, industrious, creative. But they feel totally ground down, like the government is always inventing new ways to tax them or make life harder. It shouldn't be this way. We’ve already set out policies to free them up - from cutting business rates to lowering energy costs - and we’ll be saying more this coming week in Birmingham at @conservatives conference.

Our enemies are not waiting for the spending review. Conservatives will cut welfare to fund defence. Spending on health and disability benefits alone is set to hit nearly Β£100 billion by 2030, whilst our armed forces do not have the resources they need. It can’t continue.

Here’s Jim. He thinks you have to have lived through something to be able to know what happened. No one tell him about history lessons, graphs or manuscripts and please, the fact there are four surviving Magna Carta will be too much.
Here’s @WiltsAnnabelle sharing her knowledge of the 70’s. She was born in 1981, so her experiences are somewhat limited.

This man was released early from prison by Labour this morning. What’s his plan? He’s going to β€œgo stealing” Labours shambolic early releases means we are all at risk from criminals who should still be in prison

Over the summer, Henry Nowak's final moments were broadcast around the world. He was just eighteen, and when the police reached him on a street in Southampton he would have believed that help had come. He told them he had been stabbed and could not breathe, and they handcuffed and arrested him. I met Henry's family in June, and that meeting has stayed with me ever since. There is still much more to be said about how the police failed Henry, and about how they went on failing his family and loved ones right up until the conviction. The day after we met, I wrote to the then Prime Minister, Keir Starmer asking for an independent, rapid review of the police response, the decisions that followed, and the role of the police watchdog. I didn't publish that letter at the time, because I hoped the Government would do the right thing and I wanted to work with them quietly to make that happen. Downing Street's answer was to wait for the existing processes to run their course. Since then, Keir Starmer has gone and Andy Burnham has taken his place, yet still there is no review. There was little mention of victims in the PM’s speech earlier this week. Henry's family have waited long enough, so today I'm publishing my letter. Andy Burnham should order the review now, and I stand ready to work with him to set it up, as I offered in June. I haven't forgotten Henry, and I won't let this Government forget him either.

This is what the bond markets think of the Prime Minister’s plans …
UK 30-year gilt yields have just smashed through 6%, hitting 6.065%. The 10-year is at 5.53%. A month ago I said 6% was the "danger zone". Buckle up! This is the bond market putting a price on Britain’s fiscal credibility. The real pain has only just begun.

Rather misleading headline here. All parties can support individual polices of a governing party that does not mean they are going into coalition with them or giving them a blank cheque.

β€˜I’ve been mildly inconvenienced by security checks you get at most borders so I demand we override a democratic referendum and return to a non-sovereign Parliament where decisions are made by an unelected elite.’
I’ve just come through innumerable checks at Paris Gare du Nord in order to return to UK. Families with young children & older people (yes, including me) finding it really difficult. The sooner we return to EU the better it will be for us all.
Community note
Passport checks at Paris Gare du Nord for Eurostar to the UK involve French and UK border controls that predate Brexit, as the UK has never been part of the Schengen Area even as an EU member. Rejoining the EU would not eliminate them. lordslibrary.parliament.uk/research-brief… commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-brief… gov.uk/guidance/eu-en… eurostar.com/uk-en/travel-i…

Accusing people who criticise you of putting you in danger is not a serious political position. I thought Suella was pretty poor on QT and it was inevitable she’d resort to being the victim on this platform. It’a not a great look. We need grown up politicians with grown up solutions. The country deserves better than performative nonsense.
You’ve called me racist this evening- albeit in a contorted way- but in doing so, you’ve lowered the tone of the debate with divisive and inflammatory language. And absurdly, you’re suggesting that I’m being racist against myself. It’s because of irresponsible language like yours that we in Reform need security. The left can keep smearing us as racist for challenging the cosy consensus on mass migration but we will not be bullied into silence.

Literally no one has realised this but the 2017 Tory manifesto actually committed to replacing the pensions triple lock with a double lock. This never happened because the DUP confidence and supply agreement committed to dropping the pledge. So Andy Burnham has received a lot of praise this week from the Labour Party for *two* ideas he and his party vociferously campaigned against in 2017, to defeat Theresa May’s pensions spending restraint and social care reform… and make Jeremy Corbyn Prime Minister. lol.
