Londoner in NYC. Mother. Joined X to debate Covid pseudoscience/kid masking, stayed to discuss urbanism/safe pedestrian infrastructure and women's rights.

Isn’t it ironic that @NYCHealthCommr blocked me after I tried to direct him *to his department’s own graphs* for flu and RSV? Covid is also falling but I didn’t want to overload him with screenshots.

For context, here are your own graphs for flu and RSV. It doesn’t look like “everyone is sick right now”.

The NYS toddler mask mandate was only enacted in Sep 2021 when most of the world was moving away from Covid. However, @GovKathyHochul really wanted to be different from @GovRonDeSantis and show she was taking Covid seriously. Her move was daycare masking. No one thought of kids.

The key word is “disturbing“ and Martin Kulldorff was referring to a very specific video from *Sep 2021*. By that time, UK had already declared “the freedom day“ and removed all restrictions. Europe’s schools were open and maskless. Meanwhile, in the US…

The thing is… there is one reading solution that appears superior to all others and it is hard core phonics. UK (England’s) data and experience over past 15 years supports it. Schools should be aware of this and they should be directing/advising parents.

The reading curriculum change initiated by @DOEChancellor is long overdue. I am able to compare reading levels of my child’s friends in the UK and the US. The difference is absolutely staggering. All the parents are equally involved and hands-on.

It is incredible that @nycHealthy is now hiding factual replies to their tweets. Shouldn’t we all be celebrating the fact that flu, RSV and Covid are all falling?

Are RSV, flu and Covid really “spreading”? The terminology doesn’t reflect the current situation: - RSV peaked in Nov. Jan positivity rates are at all times low for this time of the year; - Flu peaked in Dec; - And here is Covid. Hospital admissions are dropping very rapidly:

UK certainly went overboard with kids and COVID but its response was still much more reasonable than what happened in the US. I am glad my child spent the worst of the pandemic in the UK. We were able to keep it “nearly normal” for her and our family.

The study you quote hasn’t adjusted for a major co-founding factor - BA.1 seropositivity. Here is the BA.2 wave across various England’s regions per ONS. Do you think London masked harder that North East? No, similarly to Boston and Chelsea, more Londoners were infected by BA.1.

Many people today are commenting on rising hospitalisations in NYC/NYS. Many of them are blaming BQ.1.1 or other emerging variants. Why don’t we look at the age breakdown of new cases? The groups on the rise are also the groups at the highest risk of hospitalisation (75+). 1/

We saw the same phenomenon in Europe a few weeks ago. The autumn wave impacted older age groups the most. Prevalence in school age kids remained low. If US wants to optimise health outcomes, it really needs to focus its booster campaign on the highest risk population (65+). 2/

UK has now boosted 50% of 65+ with bi-valent vaccines. Booster campaign is still going strong. Boosters are offered to all 50+ and high risk individuals. US keeps chasing low risk groups, i.e. kids and students. When @CDCGov is going to admit their strategy is a mistake? 3/3

Sorry, as a parent, I don't see how AAP "advocated for keeping kids safe and healthy". I'm utterly grateful to UK paediatricians who supported open schools and maximum normalcy for kids. I feel lucky that my child spent most of the pandemic in the UK rather than in dystopian US.

Most people have strong ethical reasons to be vaccinated against measles (e.g., to protect infants from measles) But this does not mean that the same ethical reasons apply (to the same degree) to covid19 vaccines There are a few key differences:

Looks like the @cmomNYC has dropped its mandatory mask requirement. It has taken too long but - hey - better late than never. My family may finally give it a go.

* Will masks and free tests do much to curb SARS-Cov-2 spread in the Omicron era? * Nobody wants Covid but will these ‘non-restrictive’ policies make much difference? Lets look at UK data in 2022 to get an idea: THREAD 1/13

It seems as there is a group of people who continue to believe that IF ONLY we wore masks or ventilated schools/public places then we would be able to 'control' the spread of an infectious disease like omicron. The reality is another.... 1/
