Ironically, progressives don’t think the US is progressive because progressives are dumb af
Paying only 2% more in taxes at $150K vs $52K lmaooooooo what an unserious country
Community note
US federal income taxes use progressive brackets where only income in each range is taxed at that rate. Single filers with 2027 IRS brackets and $16,600 standard deduction have effective rates of ~7.7% at $52k gross vs ~16.3% at $150k. irs.gov/newsroom/irs-r… taxfoundation.org/data/all/feder… nerdwallet.com/taxes/learn/20

This didn’t happen in a vacuum, Dems became extremely adversarial after Trump won in 2016 and it was all based on bullshit.
The defense industry long ago made a decision to be mostly apolitical, with a slight right lean. For some reason a portion of tech decided to strongly throw their lot in with the right, culturally and otherwise. This was dumb. US politics change like the tides and the work of the tech industry is too important for civilization for us to get tied in with the far right. We should stop wearing suits and talking about the fall of the west. We should stop trying to be based. We should get back to work.

Top of the Democratic agenda on day 1 needs to be a pause on advanced AI development, regulation of this out of control industry, and a ban on artificial superintelligence.

Ignorant af
Certain Democrats might lose their minds over this, but we must recognize that people earning over $500,000 a year are wealthy. People earning over $200,000 a year are wealthy. If we want to have normal-rich-country social policies (e.g., low-cost or free child care, universal health care), we need these people to pay a little extra. The middle-class probably need to contribute a little more as well, but they will definitely come out ahead when the improved health system and public services are accounted for.

Tyler Cowen: 'I am not even sure what to say at this point. We need a radical revaluation of this work, and of the associated policy arguments. More generally, this is only a single step in the story of how AI is going to revise economic science, and indeed past research more generally. As I stress in many of my recent talks, there will be significant gains and losses in status, with the losses often outweighing the gains. I see this as one of those cases.'

So umpires are getting scrutinized and lambasted for missing pitches an 1/8” of an inch to an inch off the plate that really isn’t the plate as MLB only counts the back half of home plate. Imagine being told you are wrong by a computer that the pitch you called a strike because it caught the front half of the plate is actually a ball. Then getting crap from all the younger, nerdy generation because it’s so EZ to tell if a pitch is a strike at 100 mph or a ball from your fucking couch. Get a grip people. They won’t call the real zone because hitters would struggle more than they do now. Imagine that.

More than 10 million Americans take out a used car loan every year, with an average rate of an insane 11.4%. We lower those rates by 4 points with our FHA for Car Loans proposal, saving the typical borrower $6,000 over the life of their loan.
