Following yesterday's High-Level Event on #CleanCooking at the 81st @UN General Assembly, the first ever held in the Assembly's history, bringing together 100 participants, a few things stood out to James Rockall, our @WorldLiquidGas CEO, from the room. Speakers framed the issue as one of humanity's most pressing yet solvable problems: a quarter of the world still lacks access, and no new technology is required to close that gap. The @IEA's Dr @fbirol identified #LPG as the main solution, contrasting the USD 2.2 billion pledged in Paris in 2024 with the USD 740 million disbursed so far, against an annual need of roughly USD 2 billion. He also addressed concerns over LPG emissions directly, noting that the carbon sink lost to #deforestation is far greater. Several concrete commitments followed: 🔹 The @WorldBankGroup has put USD 500 million into clean cooking through Mission 300, and will present an ambitious plan at the next Clean Cooking Summit in Nairobi in January. 🔹 The @AfDB_Group committed USD 2 billion over ten years. 🔹 Türkiye agreed to include clean cooking in @turkiyecop31. 🔹 Ireland pledged €340 million. 🔹 Nigeria doubled its target to 10 million households switched to LPG. 🔹 Dr Birol committed to raising this issue at @Davos. Recurring themes throughout: the need for technology neutrality, embedding clean cooking in national budgets, placing women at the centre of solutions, de-risking private capital, and measuring success by sustained use rather than dollars spent.
