It's been three years of documenting slaughter. You may notice less media coverage from Palestine, because in Gaza journalists have been slaughtered en masse, and in the West Bank we're being put in torture chambers and threatened systemically by Israel (both military & police, and settlers). But the real thing is that enough has been covered, what's missing is not news, it's the insistence of the world that we keep providing documentation while it refuses to provide accountability. What this has done is create a vacuum where we are drained, depleted, and forced to risk our lives, while Israeli colonial and genocidal violence is sustained and excused.

Today is the second anniversary of the martyrdom of the 19-year-old photojournalist Hassan Hamad who was assassinated and reduced to some pieces of flesh in an Israeli airstrike after he received multiple death threats. Hassan is one of Gaza's youngest journalists.

Caught on camera: Sameer Project comes under Israeli fire while distributing water in Gaza —— On 5 October, The Sameer Project said its team came under gunfire while distributing water in eastern Salah al-Din, with men forced to crawl to avoid shots from Israeli occupation forces. The group confirmed that Palestinians continue to be targeted daily, with people killed and injured every day, stressing that “the genocide never ended.” It noted that areas it serves, including eastern Salah al-Din near the yellow line, receive little to no aid, but families remain there because they have nowhere else to go and still urgently need support. The Sameer Project also said it received reports from the Shujaiya intersection and Montazah Camp that hundreds of families, including women and children, were being fired upon by occupation forces. The group said attacks have intensified across the Gaza Strip over the past several days.

The anti-migrant street patrol groups say they exist to protect women. The Guardian has spoken to seven women who say they survived domestic abuse by key figures in the movement. At least 14 patrol groups have been set up in towns and cities across the UK. The Guardian reports they've received tens of thousands of pounds in public donations. The women's names have been changed. Some have been granted restraining or non-molestation orders. One had to move towns with police support. The Guardian says it has been shown evidence of the abuse. Not every case reached a conviction, and the piece says so. In one, charges including rape were dropped after the victim withdrew support. In the same case, the founder of a patrol group was convicted of coercive control in May, with the prosecutor telling the court the victim feared he would kill her. Another group was set up by a man jailed in 2022 for a racist attack that left someone with life-changing brain injuries. A third figure was convicted in 2018 of threatening a former partner. The stated purpose of these groups is protection. The record the Guardian has assembled deserves a closer look from anyone deciding whether to back them.
