This again Dave? How many times do we need to correct you -
The UKHSA has not recorded thousands of people whose cause of death was “excess heat”. It produced a provisional estimate of 2,877 “heat-associated deaths” for the May and June heat episodes, calculated by comparing deaths during hot periods with deaths during surrounding non-heat periods.
UKHSA itself states that heat-associated deaths cannot be measured directly, only estimated. The final figures aren’t even due until 2027.
Meanwhile, the UK imported considerably more natural gas than it produced in 2025 — approximately 464 TWh imported compared with 332 TWh produced domestically. I see little sense in deliberately increasing our dependence on imported oil and gas while we still consume both and have resources available in the North Sea.
And for some perspective on emissions: UK territorial greenhouse-gas emissions have fallen 54% since 1990, and the Government estimates Britain now produces less than 1% of global greenhouse-gas emissions.
Transition away from fossil fuels as alternatives become viable, certainly — but while Britain still needs oil and gas, I’d rather we responsibly produce more of our own than simply import more of it.
