The official line is that this is down to security concerns after last week’s arrests near the airfield. In truth, these have been inactive for a while and with hostilities unlikely to restart before the mid-terms, a return to the US will allow recuperation and rest.
The U.S. removed all its B-1 bombers from the U.K.’s RAF Fairford air base, a decision stemming from security concerns over suspected terror plots against the facility, American officials said. on.wsj.com/4rOKXe6

Imagine Starmer seeing Burnham going into bat for the city owners and remembering the shit he got for some free glasses.
“I would be really concerned to lose them.” Prime Minister Andy Burnham on the possibility of Manchester City’s owners selling up. What?! These are owners found guilty of serial breaches of the Premier League rule-book by three judges on an independent commission after a lengthy investigation. Owners who outraged other clubs and countless fans by flouting the rules and inflating sponsorship income with the Disguised Funding Scheme. Owners who misled auditors and regulators, who threaten to bring this Premier League season – and, potentially, future seasons - to a standstill by their appeal, deny, delay tactics. Owners who are patently not proper custodians of a famous, historic club. Owners who many hope will sell up and ship out after bringing such shame and sham contracts to the game. So these are astonishing, alarming comments from the PM. “I do actually thank the City Football Group and the wider ownership for the money that they didn't just put into the Etihad and the campus around it but also into the city," Burnham told the BBC’s Chris Mason. Come on, PM. Read the room. Read the commission’s report. Read the belligerent statements from the Abu Dhabi owners and their chief executive like Ferran Soriano. Rather than thank CFG, perhaps thank the diligence of the Premier League in seeking to enforce its rules and protect the national sport. Perhaps thank the three judges for their pain-staking work in sifting through reams of evidence and coming to their considered conclusion. Burnham spoke as a politician seemingly with one eye on diplomatic and trade links. He spoke as a former mayor whose city benefited from investment in east Manchester by Abu Dhabi. “They've been such a huge partner in the building of modern Manchester and obviously the building of Manchester City into the global force that it is.” And how was that building financed? Burnham spoke as a politician and not the football fan that he truly is. The lifelong Evertonian is usually pretty sound on football matters. He misread the mood of many fans not wanting the possible return of drinking in Premier League stands but that was a rare misstep. This is far worse. This makes him look out of touch with the prevailing mood. He was speaking at Hill Dickinson Stadium. Maybe he should head to Anfield on Sunday week and witness the anger felt towards City. Burnham did add that he wasn’t getting involved in the process and that City had a right to appeal if they felt harshly treated. But how does the PM’s sympathetic words for controversial owners help the independent football regulator charged by Government with leading the fight against those who risk the credibility of their club, who play fast and loose with the rules and who damage the integrity of the national sport? How frustrating if Burnham’s words embolden City's owners and Soriano further. Bit of an own goal by No 10.

On scrapping the triple lock, Andy Burnham says: "That's not quite right. I've said that we will make an adjustment to the triple lock. Now you might say that sounds like clever politician speak." Nick Robinson: "I do think it's clever politician speak."

Downing Street sources insisting it's still a triple lock. Pension will rise by more than inflation or 2.5% in some years to hold its value relative to average earnings. Unclear how much money it will save. Confused? You're not the only one.
NEW: Pensions triple lock to be scrapped in April 2030, Andy Burnham says. Replaced by a double lock guaranteeing state pension will rise by the rate of inflation or 2.5%, while holding its value relative to wages over time (not sure what that means). Money saved will be used to build new National Care Service. Burnham: "This is the deal - a state pension that rises every year, no care charges and a high quality national care service to give peace of mind in later life. "I am going to go out and argue for that - a good deal for our pensioners and for older people in the 21st century."

DARREN JONES: I WAS ASKED WHETHER I WOULD CALL FOR KEIR STARMER TO RESIGN By @PronouncedAlva Jones has a fascinating way of delivering sharp criticism or warnings in a casual, matter-of-fact way, as if unaware he is doing it. He says he always knew he wasn’t getting a job in Burnham’s cabinet. When he tallied up the number of people the incoming Prime Minister owed jobs to – “people who had evidently done deals, or called for Keir to resign in public or had resigned themselves, plus people he needed to bring back who had not been in the cabinet and had supported the coup… the numbers didn’t add up”. He doesn’t shy away from the idea that some of the most prominent figures in the cabinet knifed Starmer in the back in return for a job at the top table. He reveals, still ever-so-casually, that he was asked to make a deal himself. “I was approached indirectly and asked whether I would call for Keir to resign in return for something, but I was very clear that I wasn’t going to do that.” Something being a cabinet job? “I mean, that was my interpretation of the message. But that’s just not how I conduct myself.” newstatesman.com/politics/po…

The double Hawk ejection today was spectacular. Tandem seats can be fired independently or as a result of one of the pilots initiating the sequence for both. Note the diverging angle; the seats are designed to fly that way to increase separation prior to the parachutes opening.

Charles Spencer waited twenty-nine years, three divorces, and a publishing contract before deciding that a fifteen-year-old boy’s composure on the worst day of his life was a reason to treat him as the secondary concern. I am seething. In Swan Song, Spencer writes that William “looked more self-possessed.” Tall. Handsome. Dignified. The image of his mother. And because the child did not collapse in public, because he held himself together while the world watched, his uncle decided Harry was the one who needed the fuss. William’s maturity, in other words, became the justification for ranking him second. That is not grief talking. That is a man who has spent decades polishing a narrative in which one nephew is the wounded prince and the other is the inconveniently functional one. Spencer’s own words give him away. He admits he “cared deeply” about what William was going through, then immediately explains why that care was deprioritized. The greater composure made him secondary. For a relative who claims to care, how completely insensitive. The uncle who delivered the funeral eulogy about blood family and duty decided, on the train to Althorp, that the boy who most resembled Diana was the one who could wait. Twenty-nine years later he puts it in a book timed for the 30th anniversary market. Convenient. Financially convenient — it’s sickening. Spencer now presenting William’s dignity as a reason to look away first is not brotherly concern. It is narrative management. Harry gets the “lack of obvious care” chapter. William gets the “he seemed fine, so I moved on” footnote. That is not how you protect a sister’s sons. That is how you pick a favorite and call it memory. William’s composure was not a luxury. It was the only armor a fifteen-year-old had left. Treating it as the reason he came second is one of the colder lines in a book already dripping with score-settling. Some of us still notice when a man waits almost three decades to tell the world that the boy who held it together was, therefore, less urgent. That boy grew up. He is still holding it together. While the uncle is dining on the tragic death of his sister.

This is going to be my final post on the Charles Spencer book, as I’m sick of seeing his face and reading things that make me angry. 🧘‍♀️ I simply do not believe him, not out of some blind loyalty to the King, but because I find it inconceivable, that in 29 years, we have never heard these stories before. Isn’t it funny, how when both he and Harry have a book to sell, they have an abundance of shocking and terrible new stories to tell. Stories I might add, that they had never once mentioned previously, despite years of interviews. It’s also rather coincidental that they seem to be singing from the same hymn sheet now money is to be made, with Charles Spencer peddling the same ‘poor Harry’ victim narrative that was pushed so heavily in SPARE. And much like after the release of SPARE, I have learned so much more about Charles Spencer’s true character in the last few days, that have made me go from being indifferent about him, to thinking he is a truly nasty and vile man. This book is no more a tribute to Diana, than Harry’s book was about his ‘truth’. It’s about revenge, grinding an axe and cashing in on their own family. Whilst the media is revelling in the latest drama and I’m certain it’s the last thing the Palace needed right now, I think we know who will come off worse in the long run 👑

Breaks my heart to see this. Portsmouth is my hometown and to think the local @RNLI have been targeted due to mindless, selfish thugs. Horrendous.
The RNLI is a charity that exists to save lives at sea. But recent events have generated deliberate misinformation and a misunderstanding about their purpose and lifesaving work. As a result, some of their volunteers and staff have been the subject of online and, in some cases, physical abuse. The Portsmouth Lifeboat Station is currently closed as a result of this and the violent disorder. I have met with the RNLI Chief Executive to offer my full support for their vital work and continue to liaise with our local Lifeboat team. The RNLI's people represent the very best of society and our city. They dedicate themselves to rescuing people they've never met before, without judgment, fear or favour.
