I love the fact that female doctors are finally coming out to talk about the things we’ve been saying for years, things that some doctors have consistently dismissed.
Before I started having children, I suffered from dysmenorrhea. I remember complaining about the pain, and I was simply told to take Buscopan and that it would go away.
My dear, it didn’t go away.
I would faint whenever I had my period. There were times I couldn’t function at work, and I lost several jobs because of how severely my periods affected me.
Sometimes, when you explain these experiences to a male doctor, you feel like you’re not being taken seriously. Your pain is minimised, and you’re made to feel like it’s just normal menstrual discomfort.
That’s why I appreciate what these female doctors are doing on this timeline. They are educating people, validating women’s experiences and amplifying conversations that have been ignored for far too long.
Thank you for speaking up. Thank you for amplifying our voices. Women deserve to be heard, believed and properly attended to.
