A better bean harvest starts beneath the soil. Through the #3SFI Project supported by @SwissDevCoop, 42+ tons of lime have been distributed to correct acidic soils in 25 schools in Nyamasheke, Rwanda—creating the right conditions for high-iron beans to thrive & nourish learners.
Through PABRA's Scaling Sustainable School Feeding Innovations (3SFI) project in Rwanda, the Alliance of Bioversity International and #CIAT has donated over 42 tonnes of agricultural lime to 25 schools with acidic soil in @Nyamasheke. The support aims to boost the production of high-iron beans and strengthen the national school feeding program by enabling schools to serve nutritious meals to learners.
Lime reduces soil acidity, which helps crops absorb nutrients more effectively and improves yields. The high-iron beans harvested by the schools will supplement school meals, helping to tackle malnutrition and anemia among learners and supporting their health, concentration and learning.
