if you’re more worried about a DSA member telling NYC public radio that we don’t all agree with abolishing prisons than you are with a DSA co-chair advocating such an obviously counterproductive demand on big national outlets, then tbh you just need to touch grass more often

literally none of what's written here is accurate:
- I never once trashed DSA (to the contrary the whole interview is about how DSA can/must seize the moment because we're the only current with solutions to the crisis),
- I disagreed with one plank in our platform (police-prison abolition) and defended others (e.g. our advocacy of socialism, our push for an arms embargo, etc.)
- Brian Lehrer isn't AT ALL "hostile media", what are you talking about,
- our strategic differences ("internal truth-seeking") aren't "internal", c'mon,
- and being a professor at Rutgers does not provide real institutional power (I wish!)
@wellstonism if you have substantive political responses to the case that I made for a mass politics approach, please share those, but smearing a rank-and-file member of your organization for disagreeing with you politically is unhealthy for DSA's democratic life. why not just debate the politics instead of making a misleading dunk?
This is, frankly, an execrable and embarrassing interview. An unelected member of the party uses his institutional power as an academic historian. to go to hostile media and trash the program and our organization at a moment of incredible growth and internal truth-seeking.

It's strange to suggest members shouldn't talk publicly about DSA's strategic differences when there have been dozens of mainstream newspaper accounts of these published in the last few weeks (with quotes from all sides), when every single one of our candidates gets grilled on whether they agree with the new platform, and when Twitter remains DSA's main arena for debate
Our differences aren't a secret! I hope people who disagree with me and others on what mass politics looks like at this moment can start responding more on the politics rather than the procedure/form, it'd make for a more productive conversation
