On the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York this week, His Highness the Aga Khan held talks with the President of Kenya, His Excellency William Ruto; the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif; the US Ambassador to Türkiye and Special Presidential Envoy for Syria and Iraq, Tom Barrack; and the Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Tom Fletcher. The meetings provided an opportunity to continue dialogue with key partners on the work of the Ismaili Imamat and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), and to discuss areas of shared interest across the regions in which they serve.

This week in Nairobi, AKDN and the Singapore Cooperation Programme brought together senior Kenyan public servants for five days at Aga Khan University (@AKUGlobal) to focus on strategic leadership and public governance. The programme drew on Singapore's long experience in public administration alongside expertise from Kenya and across AKDN. Sessions covered public-sector transformation, economic development, crisis communication, human resource management, future-ready leadership, and mental wellbeing in leadership. Participants shared their own experience of what has and hasn't worked in Kenya and looked at which parts of Singapore's approach could be adapted here. One idea ran through the week: leadership is judged by the difference it makes to people's lives. It began with a single classroom in Mundra in 1905. Since then, the Ismaili Imamat and the Aga Khan Development Network have partnered with India for more than 120 years, across education and youth skilling, livelihoods and culture. The scale of that partnership today: 🎓 @AgaKhanSchools_ educate more than 8,500 children each year and early childhood development programmes have reached 2.2 million more. @schools2030 AKF’s education initiative, has reached 45,000 students in Bihar. 💼 @AkrspIndia' Yuva Junction has trained over 53,000 young people, with more than 25,000 now employed. 🌾 AKRSP India has reached over 3.5 million people across rural communities, and with @AKF_Global, helped more than 200,000 farmers adopting natural farming techniques. Cultural restoration has been part of this work too. In Delhi, Humayun's Tomb and its gardens attract nearly three million visitors a year. In Hyderabad, more than a decade of work has conserved the 106-acre Qutb Shahi necropolis. And in Gwalior, a new initiative is just getting underway. As India looks towards Viksit Bharat 2047, AKDN remains committed to working with communities to help people shape their own futures.
