Every great company needs an origin story. Rain has a cool one. Farooq and Charles initially partnered on a fundraising automation tool: SignAndWire. It let investors sign a term sheet and then wire the funds through a single platform. At the time, there was demand to add an option to sign and send stablecoins. So @cnaut built that into the platform. From there, it quickly became apparent how radically better stablecoins were than every other funding method. When investors sent payment through ACH, it would take up to 10 days to make it through the platform to the founder's bank account. An anxiety-inducing wait for first-time founders. Then, over Christmas, @balajis wanted to make an investment while banks and traditional systems were closed. He was able to send the funds in USDC in 30 seconds. That was a lightbulb moment for @rooqster and @cnaut. Stablecoins were clearly a better way to make payments. They had caught a glimpse of how the entire financial system would one day work. Then came @raincards.

The only parenting advice I find useful: You can't teach your kids anything. You just have to embody the things you want them to learn. Make a list of the traits and values you want your kids to have. Then make sure you're living by them every single day. That's really it.

You have a window between 23-29, where your spirit & vitals are at their fiercest. Do everything within your power to realize your dreams. Do your utmost. After that, living is, for the most part, just dying. A little everyday. A wound you can stitch, not so much a torn spirit.

The best outbound starts before you automate anything. Founders need to learn who actually has the problem, what gets their attention, and what makes them reply. YC Visiting Partner @ChristinaG325 recommends doing at least your first 100 outreaches by hand so you can learn those things yourself. Drawing from her experience generating and closing millions of dollars through founder-led sales at OneSchema, Christina shares eight ways founders can improve their outbound, from targeting the right people and writing emails worth reading to following up, debugging low reply rates, and using customer language to sharpen your message. 00:38 - Start manual before you automate 01:25 - Targeting beats perfect messaging 02:23 - How to find the right job titles 03:07 - Picking the right companies 03:47 - Intent signals 04:25 - Craft a message worth reading 06:00 - A cold email that works 07:19 - Subject lines 07:37 - Improve your LinkedIn profile 08:47 - What your reply rates are telling you 09:47 - Follow up, and reply fast 10:37 - Block out time for outbound 11:25 - Use the messaging from your customers 12:27 - Your slog compounds

An underrated law? Kidlin's Law. That if you write down a problem clearly and specifically, you have already solved half of it. The act of clearly & specifically describing a problem on paper creates a deeper understanding of its components & makes it easier to find solutions.

Goldman Sachs put 50 multimillionaire Gen Z heirs (18-23) through a two-week wealth bootcamp in New York What they taught them is a pretty good financial primer for anyone Aimed at the children of Goldman private-wealth clients with an average account size of >$90 million ✦ The heirs were taught basic investment skills: economic cycles, fixed income, hedge funds, portfolio diversification, credit scores and budgeting ✦ They toured Goldman trading floors and learned what an equity trader actually does ✦ They learned to read and extract the important information from a Wall Street Journal article ✦ A day was devoted to communication, presence and leadership, including role-playing job interviews and workplace situations ✦ They studied real estate, infrastructure, luxury investment assets and sports-team ownership Goldman is cultivating the relationship before the inheritance Smart move Source: Fortune

Low agency is an adaptation. It's what a smart organism does after it learns that reaching out gets its hand slapped. People optimized for the slap-avoidance game. It's scar tissue, not personality.
Nobody is born low agency. Babies are the highest-agency creatures alive, they will absolutely try to eat a battery, they have no concept of "I can't." Low agency is learned, usually from being punished for trying.

Nobody tells you this when you’re young: Speed is the distance between seeing an opportunity and acting on it. Time is what happens after you make the good decision and hold long enough to let it compound.

YC has said this publicly and it never changes Investors aren't evaluating your idea. They're evaluating whether you understand your users better than anyone in the room. Stripe didn't close their seed on a great pitch. Patrick Collison showed developers already using his 7 lines of code in production. User knowledge closes rounds. Pitch quality is just the wrapper.

To be honest, not 10 thousand times harder. There are a few mistakes I’ve seen people make while building, even before product distribution starts playing a role. - Building a product you have no connection to and no people to test it with. You just woke up with an idea to build an app for a legal team. - Building a social media app like Snapchat, Instagram, X, or even Product Hunt. Still impossible. - Building a complex product for enterprises, only to realize you have no enterprise customers to test it, buy it, or even talk to. Now, I’m not saying it can’t happen. It has happened to a lucky few who built a product in a niche they’d never been involved in before, usually two years ago during the AI boom. Distribution becomes a lot easier when you do this: - Build a tool in an industry you work in and have connections in. - Build a tool that already exists and that you’ve used, but you’re annoyed by how expensive or complex it is. - Build a tool for people in a community you’re already part of. Many tech tools started like that. - Do distribution while building. Look at @robj3d3, sharing the whole process so the whole community is included.

Some dude joined our office 9 months ago, and within 3 weeks, he sent me a whatsapp asking to borrow some ka money. I found it very weird, only to find out he had hit up almost everyone in the office! We immediately started avoiding him, ignoring his calls, and leaving him out of office outings. Fast forward to today, I recently ran into him at a Bikers' meet up...dude is casually riding a Harley Davidson! I asked him, "Ggwe guy, why were you begging for money in the office when you can afford such a bike?!" He told me he never needed the cash. He's just an extreme introvert who hates workplace small talk, and he knew asking everyone for money was the fastest way to get people to leave him alone in peace! N!gga played 4D chess on all of us. Absolute legend!!!
