Is it just me, or has @chatgpt been hallucinating more often since the last funding announcement?

general purpose robots wont be built, but they will emerge! > most robots today are specialized > they do one task, in one environment really well > think - welding arms in factories, warehouse picking, cleaning robots this actually worked because we designed the world around them > structured inputs -> predictable outputs > but this approach has limits, we need humans for most of the other tasks in a factory than just core > not because its complex engineering but because its unpredictable, variable, context driven > moving parts, adjusting setups, handling exceptions, coordinating between steps this is where general purpose robots come in -> perform multiple tasks across different environments instead of 1 robot = 1 task they rely on vision (to understand the world) reasoning ( to decided what to do ) action (to execute) but this is hard because unlike software there is no - internet scale data - environments constantly change - edge cases are everywhere hence most robots are specialized but companies like .. so how do we get to general purpose robots? not by building it directly but through a path : task - > deployment - > data -> expansion in the prev post, i have explained : robots learn from - human demonstration - teleop - real world interaction - simulation over time systems that solve one task will start solving many, generality is not usually designed but earned through deployment & data think of this like - we already automated machines, but general purpose aims to automate everything in between. my take is general purpose robots wont replace specialized ones but they will connect, coordinate and fill the gaps. like i have been saying, this is less of a hardware problem & more of a data + learning loop. companies pushing this : Figure Generalist Physical Intelligence Apptronik Sunday 1X Sanctuary AI & others!

most people think robotics is a hardware problem just its not, its a data problem at scale i have been looking at how robotics companies are building at scale one thing is clear, robots learn from video + interaction data but the real question is how do you collect and use this data? few ways i am seeing : - humans doing tasks (real world) - Figure, Tesla - humans controlling robots (teleop) - Sanctuary AI Origami Robotics - robots learning by doing - Covariant - simulation (virtual environment) - Genesis AI World Labs - structured real world data pipelines (labeling + infra) Mecka AI, Humyn Labs, Sureform (YC X25) all of this create a loop : data -> train -> deploy -> improve > more data my take is teams that would win would build better engines and not just better models. better dat == better robot feels like everyone is attacking different part of the problem, but the end goal is the same - scalable, high quality robot learning loops next breakout robotics company? will be a data company (hopefully) curious how are others thinking in this space esp about data collection, diversity at scale if you are building or thinking in this space, would love to connect!

what i have realised with time is its not just the product its not just the right team its not just the tier 1 investors its about 'leverage' leverage of distribution leverage of technology leverage of capital leverage of people

Yesterday I met a tech veteran who’s been building for 30+ years (rn 70 yo). We spoke about AI, world models, singularity, even how nations operate. I asked him: if you were 30 again, what would you build? He smiled: Definitely not tech. Curious if we will seeing anti-AI / IRL ventures - community, physical spaces, human networks.

Interesting to see how the conversation on social media has shifted from ChatGPT-centric to Anthropic-centric. Is the Empire of AI becoming reality? @_KarenHao

Just wow
You’re not gonna believe this latest story. Over the past few years mossad undercover agents infiltrated as doctors and dentists in Iran. The Dentists gave priority to. Key military, and elite Iranian personnel. While doing a routine dental check up, they implanted tracking devices as fillings for cavities. On the other side, Gastro doctors implanted similar devices in their elite patients. Yesterday mossad knew exactly where each one of them were ( komayne’s wife and family members included )and sent missiles at them. Over 400 elite military in government personnel were eliminated in the first few moments ( maybe that’s one of the reasons why they knew where he was hiding )when Israel attacked.

Not gonna lie. This is honestly somewhat terrifying to read
we're making @blocks smaller today. here's my note to the company. #### today we're making one of the hardest decisions in the history of our company: we're reducing our organization by nearly half, from over 10,000 people to just under 6,000. that means over 4,000 of you are being asked to leave or entering into consultation. i'll be straight about what's happening, why, and what it means for everyone. first off, if you're one of the people affected, you'll receive your salary for 20 weeks + 1 week per year of tenure, equity vested through the end of may, 6 months of health care, your corporate devices, and $5,000 to put toward whatever you need to help you in this transition (if you’re outside the U.S. you’ll receive similar support but exact details are going to vary based on local requirements). i want you to know that before anything else. everyone will be notified today, whether you're being asked to leave, entering consultation, or asked to stay. we're not making this decision because we're in trouble. our business is strong. gross profit continues to grow, we continue to serve more and more customers, and profitability is improving. but something has changed. we're already seeing that the intelligence tools we’re creating and using, paired with smaller and flatter teams, are enabling a new way of working which fundamentally changes what it means to build and run a company. and that's accelerating rapidly. i had two options: cut gradually over months or years as this shift plays out, or be honest about where we are and act on it now. i chose the latter. repeated rounds of cuts are destructive to morale, to focus, and to the trust that customers and shareholders place in our ability to lead. i'd rather take a hard, clear action now and build from a position we believe in than manage a slow reduction of people toward the same outcome. a smaller company also gives us the space to grow our business the right way, on our own terms, instead of constantly reacting to market pressures. a decision at this scale carries risk. but so does standing still. we've done a full review to determine the roles and people we require to reliably grow the business from here, and we've pressure-tested those decisions from multiple angles. i accept that we may have gotten some of them wrong, and we've built in flexibility to account for that, and do the right thing for our customers. we're not going to just disappear people from slack and email and pretend they were never here. communication channels will stay open through thursday evening (pacific) so everyone can say goodbye properly, and share whatever you wish. i'll also be hosting a live video session to thank everyone at 3:35pm pacific. i know doing it this way might feel awkward. i'd rather it feel awkward and human than efficient and cold. to those of you leaving…i’m grateful for you, and i’m sorry to put you through this. you built what this company is today. that's a fact that i'll honor forever. this decision is not a reflection of what you contributed. you will be a great contributor to any organization going forward. to those staying…i made this decision, and i'll own it. what i'm asking of you is to build with me. we're going to build this company with intelligence at the core of everything we do. how we work, how we create, how we serve our customers. our customers will feel this shift too, and we're going to help them navigate it: towards a future where they can build their own features directly, composed of our capabilities and served through our interfaces. that's what i'm focused on now. expect a note from me tomorrow. jack
