i guess it might depend if you are going for a toy or a model. i mean toys are getting cheaper and cheaper. On the other hand i can get a kids digital camera with buildin games for 8 euro at the dollar store heh.
The US has bases on Greenland .. they even had this small experimental base under the ice called Camp Century powered by a small nuclear reactor. But building in the ice didnt work out. Saw some documentaries about it. youtube.com/watch?v=hzTfiTsk…
There is this video how there are 1000's of abandoned RTG's in Russia that powered things like light houses. And people actually died when people stole the metal but left the pit, and sheperds slept in the snow next to the pit. youtube.com/watch?v=NT8-b5YE…
Radio shack used to sell micronta microwave leak testers. Simple passive devices. A small loop antenna some very high frequency schottky diodes and a resistor and capacitor as an AM detector so to speak. Hmm i wonder if i have the diodes.
Reminds me of these 8 pin DIP LPC-810 ARM chips. Nice idea .. but you always seem to be short of pins. And there is sort of a low resolution ADC, but that requires 2 pins.
overhead projector. I used them in presentations .. xerox graphs from books on thin foil to show people. I saw on YT that there used to be LCD devices you could put on them but in the video they barely worked anymore. Some people now stick a color LCD on youtube.com/watch?v=gXX2Ukuc…
Wings useally only are practical with really light things. Like colibris. As flap rate goes down with size/weight so a regular duck needs a runway. Reminds of when the mythbusters wanted to fly with 2 ducted fans. youtu.be/OAXIRm8r2Cs?si=qXy6…
They closed most canals/rivers for transport ships here as they cant open locks and loose water. So freight has to be transported over roads now which add costs. We had like 5 heatwaves and its still warm .. but after the weekend it might be cooler and wetter in our village.
Well sure .. but it was a bit of a hack this time. Cause i didn't get to the shop in the morning as i had people at the door. And i didn't want to go to the city for groceries in the afternoon because of a heatwave and there are loads of vacationers there in this tourist area.
Yeahr .. they are very nice in the dark heh. I used suprafax modems for many years on my BBS, and they had displays like that. The display cycled through protocols of the connection and things like that.
It seems to miss imperfections .. like useally there are holes in the leafs eaten by water snails. Or tears in leafs from the wind. Or brown grass leafs or grass or read with holes eaten in it. And there are so many leafs. So is this image real or fake:
Maybe suzuki was inspired by the bikes of the later 80's battlestar galactica TV series. Heh just realized there is a regular exhaust on those. While it prolly wasnt supposed to have a regular combustion engine as it could fly.
My parents/grandparents had these philips radioclocks with flip mechanisms they where a bit noisy heh. In the early 80's i had some kits of LED & VFD clock/frequency counters i wanted to use in a homemade radio. But i just turned it into a clock/frequency meter.
Yeahr those look real. Fran Blanche did several videos on clocks that look red LED, but there is no LED they are pure mechanical. youtube.com/watch?v=EvpulBM9…
the US company Jetson make these manned drones. But seems the chinese copied them for a fraction like $30k. But might have left some things out like an emergency parachute. youtube.com/watch?v=bUkvDe0x…
Over here some teachers slept in the school so all windows could be open at night so the schools where cool on Exam day heh. But those schools where build before global warming, and useally kids had vacation in the warm period.
Ah year you might be right, had another look .. looks like there is a mechanism in the hinges and the actuators are just decoration. youtube.com/watch?v=rTgRJHkW…
It's not bad, it's 33C outside. But i have 2" of foam panels under the roof. 3 stories of double brick walls, double pane windows. Living room has ceramic tiles that pull heat into the ground so its 23c there. At night i open the attic windows and the car and supermarket have AC.
Well my point was when they initially designed the first digital scope. Why didnt they move the most used connectors to a better spot and reserve the right maybe less practical and less used side for expansions like a digital analyzer. Something like this..
Depends on how colorblind you and your resistors are heh. I am red-green colorblind. Which can be tricky with the green/yellow bands. So i have compartment boxes for all values. And put notes in the drawers that keep large amounts of resistors.
Nice for some things drives but other things might be better put on cards in a box. I guess that can get big and expensive. Reminds me of the TI 99/4a. Some things like the 68030/PPC/ZIP/etc only came after 1985 i think.
No kidding. I found one that has the rectifier, 2 capacitors, discharge resistor. But no current regulator or current limiting resistor, and dont know what limits the current through the LEDs. Except for one resistor soldered to bottom of the case which all lamps seems to have.
This 220V lamp has in the base a rectifier and capacitor and discharge resistor. And then on the LED board a BP5131J current regulator and a couple of resistor to define current. Not even a heatsink. No inductivities or transformers.
i found these tiny infrared optical interrupters in old printers that might work. Maybe use a thin whisker itself as a spring and going through the slot. and maybe solder a thicker whisker or strip to it.
just saw a new supermarket ad where a mother comes in with groceries and the kids take packets of crisps from the bag and disappear. I hope that isnt the new standard these days. Some parents leave the schools to raise kids. youtube.com/watch?v=GmBcANZK…
Wouldnt noble gas get out and moisture get in ? I have this little stepcounter that has a reed contact with a magnet on a little spring swinging near it. Looks like a tricky mechanism. I guess i can just use it as some generic counter. Funny how it has a hidden reset button.
interesting i have an encoder from a radio but it only has 24 tactile "clicks" per rotation which i guess limits the resolution, so i figured i might try the sensor of an old mouse. Way back with Amiga computers the computer did the actual decoding of the quadrature signals.
Sometimes i use aluminium cans from old TV's and glue a transistor to them. And use a thermistor with an TL431 to control the transistor. And they reach 37c .. as i measured the thermistor for a matching resistor while it was in my arm pit heh.
If you look carefully you can see the row of windturbines in the back.. There are 6 of those rows of about 6-10 turbines. Could be worse .. we used to live at a farm thats now between the rows of turbines.
I guess you just cant make them pretty or disappear heh. This is what is down the street here. I guess they found a solution, now behind it is a row of windturbines 630 feet tall. So its less obvious :b
I sort of made a camera out of an optical mouse which requires no extra electronics and is easy to readout. I wonder if it would work for a line following robot or to run around obstacles or find some symbol which would indicate something like a charging spot.
These old mouse mechanisms are genius looks like i have 2, the sensors are on the PCB. so i guess i can saw it up .. and turn them into a tuning knob for radio or angle sensor with a little weight. It sort of works like the printer sensors but smaller and lower resolution.
I have a number of them in several sizes, put them on a metal stand and added wires for a breadboard. I think they have 8 custom characters, which you can use to make things like vertical bar graphs. I connected some in parallel with select wires.
i have this real old RC car that has inductors at a brushed motor. It has only 1 cap. on the other side the motor wire is soldered to the case. I have some modern small robots that have 3 caps. at the motor 2 between case and the wires, and one between the wires.
There is a 2nd AN-225 that is 70% finished.. Maybe they can use parts of the first one like the tail to finish it. And maybe get parts of wings of an AN-124 youtube.com/watch?v=s1Y2oyPL…
interesting things happening in space. Lots of rocket startups like RFA and ISAR .. also lots of things going wrong with their first attempts. Here is an interesting one .. 1 of the 5 engines of an Astra3 rocket failed, it didn't have enough thrust youtube.com/watch?v=9PS6z9P9…
yeahr i recognize that .. its a 3-axis I2C compas .. and it has two I2C pulled up resistors installed.. or are they also terminator resistors heh. i guess its a current loop.
Ah eye see .. reminds me of the radio shack electronics kits. Put the N.C. of the relais in series with the coil of the relais and put that AC voltage on the little transformer for the speaker. I think i actually have reed relais. Which might oscillate till a magnet comes close
It's still 12c here and warm for the time of the year. A decade ago there might have been snow outside the whole of december. Actually they are putting trees in at the moment in the street.
i soldered a little oscillator not that long ago, so i didnt need to include one of the big function generators in the experiments .. and put on jumpers to select capacitors and if the chip is TTL or CMOS. easiest way. Put some tubes on the potmeters so screwdrivers dont pop off
Yeahr for electronics you need to be a bit older. Especially if it involves a soldering iron. Had a bit of a laugh about this ... Computer Engineering for Babies youtube.com/watch?v=H46vSfZR…
Well yeahr .. i was 10 or so when i got one. and an assortment of LEDs some chips, strip circuitboard and wire from radio shack. Would have been cool if i would have gotten a science fair microcomputer trainer but it was a bit late.. youtube.com/watch?v=ND9QjrlP…
i think the one in the video is an WAYDOO eFoil .. which has electric propulsion and can have sensors to control height in water. youtube.com/watch?v=fRhXLSjA…
heh.. we had inflateable water shoes for decades here. I guess in the 80's some boatbuilder made them from wood and later they made inflateable ones. You often saw them in tv programs with games on water.
They are interesting chips .. i turned one into a little camera. But couldn't find one with a higher resolution. It's an arduino UNO with TFT shield that reads the chip and displays the image.
But the old romans did have concrete, multi storage buildings, plumbing, aqueducts, indoor toilets, central heating, post, newspapers. etc youtube.com/watch?v=9foi342L…
also funny is putting the polarizing filter of the LCD screen of a calculator in front of the lens of a camera. Then take a photo of plastic packaging in front of a white field on a LCD TFT monitor. You get these colorfull image of tension in the plastic i guess.
looks like this liquid crystal thermometer is too old, it doesnt seem to react much to temperature change. And you need to look really good to see numbers on it.
