The Merge was Ethereum changing its consensus mechanism while a global financial system kept running on top of it.
The PQ transition will be even more fundamental: replacing the cryptographic assumptions Ethereum was built on, while preserving the continuity of the system itself.
The Merge proved Ethereum could change its engine in flight.
Post-quantum Ethereum will have to prove it can change the laws of physics it relies on.
