I am not as worried about the madness in American governance as I am about the madness in Nigeria. America will recover and adapt, but we seem quite delusional about how bad things are in Nigeria. The delusion is so deep that people believe that things will suddenly take a good turn when one person says the right words. It will not, it is much deeper as it is a deep cultural problem. Those videos of kidnappers lying in wait inside the bush near people's homes will soon become kidnappers having checkpoints in urban areas. These are people who were equipped and mobilized for a purpose and then left on their own after their paymasters got what they wanted and turned a blind eye to their atrocities. There is also the matter of complicity of law enforcement who attack victims who complain, as we have seen since 2020. These things are not random incidents but part of a broader pattern that people like @sbmintelligence have always warned us about. Short-term thinking amplifies itself, and desperation becomes the norm. I have been resolving a family conflict for the last week, and what has become apparent to me about those back home is that they are very far gone. Criminality is now a culture. Desperation is how people live. It is no longer from paycheck to paycheck but from crisis to crisis. It is either you become a victim, or you become the problem. A pipeline of more problems is coming as people try to survive in all of this. I don't see any great outcomes.
