Verifiability is imo the most underrated property of truly public blockchain networks. On Ethereum, you can permissionlessly run a small machine and convince yourself that billions/trillions of dollars of transaction value (payment, swaps, credit etc) were settled according to committed rules. Not only for L1 but also for L2s. It’s the ultimate security backstop, and it gives the Ethereum network a herd immunity and “eyes on the street” that are hard to beat in the class of fully programmable environments.
Always remember guys, the biggest value prop of blockchain is verifability. Don't trust, verify.

Btw this is not at odds with user privacy. Verifiability doesn’t imply input transparency.

Are you sure? Most ppl seems to think it's faked perps volume

Garbage in garbage out. Ethereum doesn't have an opinion on the meaning of data that it cannot observe, interpret, and act upon as a result. That's a property you hopefully obtain from apps committing to a state transition function that clears them of such faults. But you can only go so far, and some faults aren't observable/are "intersubjective". There's still a huge space of commitments that are highly valuable to write to the chain and that give users value from the certainty.

Verify, don’t just believe.

this is exactly the tradeoff we live with — a fully transparent chain gets "eyes on the street" for free, a shielded pool has to manufacture that same guarantee through the proof itself. anyone can still run the verifier and confirm the rules were followed without trusting us, but they're verifying "a valid deposit exists" rather than watching the ledger directly. different mechanism, same underlying property, worth being precise about the difference.

The blockchain itself must be based on the rapid movement of large-scale funds and secure transactions. Can't we discuss verification within that context? If users turn away, does even the best technology have any meaning? I believe that creating all of this is the role of ethlabs. Ethlabs community supports it.

Curious if anyone knows how you can verify Canton ? How can you verify in a private Ethereum L2 using privacy. Explaining this in simple terms would be very helpful.

would be useful to see the cost of running those checks next to TPS whenever people compare chains

What's even the point of blockchain if it is not easily verifiable?

and in an age of AI, verifiability has the potential to be even more useful across many other use cases
