Also, that mandatory 5 cent charge on plastic bags is essentially just free extra revenue for supermarkets.
If you were serious about wanting to reduce plastic consumption (which is another topic altogether as I think it’s irrelevant outcome-wise for Singapore to be partaking in it), you’d hit the logistical aspects of supermarket supply chains where items are heavily wrapped in plastic, unwrapped at distribution points and rewrapped again.
But that requires effort and actual rather than jerking each other off in parliament, patting each other’s backs with cum-stained hands and resisting the urge not to wipe them on a sleeping Seah Kian Peng.
