🚨 NEW: A report from @Cmmonwealth has found that over £6 billion in profit was taken from public services by outsourcing companies last year.
That sum would pay for 300,000 additional adult social care workers to look after Britain’s vulnerable.

“Taxpayers’ money” doesn’t mean politicians get to dictate how poor people live. We don’t police the spending of pensioners, MPs or businesses receiving public money. A UBI takes the opposite approach: a secure income floor, dignity and personal choice.
I cheered when, after @bbcnickrobinson suggested now that this was “telling people how to spend their own money”, @Helen_Whately replied “This is taxpayers’ money”. Exactly.

Findings from the @DHSCgovuk's biennial survey of adult carers show the huge pressures facing unpaid carers. Over a third of carers surveyed are providing more than 100 hours of care a week.
Carers need greater support, recognition and a stronger voice in care decisions.

“Welfare is a lifestyle choice” is lazy scapegoating. Most people claim because wages, health, disability, caring or insecurity leave them short. A better system guarantees a floor, supports work and removes stigma. UBI does that, punishment doesn’t.
Everyone knows that for too many, welfare is a lifestyle choice exploited by those who refuse to work.
An insult to hard-working taxpayers.

The latest Survey of Adult Carers in England shows more than a third of carers are providing 100+ hours of care a week, with over half struggling to look after themselves properly.
Caring around the clock should not mean sacrificing your own health, wellbeing, and ability to live a full life.
Unpaid carers urgently need better funded support, real access to breaks, and a social care system that is there when they need it.

If one in four 16–24-year-olds is struggling with mental health, “snowflake” sneers are useless.
Housing insecurity, low pay, debt and an uncertain future all matter.
UBI won’t solve mental health alone — but economic security is part of prevention, not an optional extra.
A review, backed by more than 100 experts, has found it's genuinely tougher to be young today: anxiety, depression and self-harm are rising, and one in four 16–24-year-olds is now struggling with their mental health.
Bluntly: "Adults have let them down."
And to anyone still spouting "snowflake generation," the review's lead, Professor Peter Fonagy, sets a challenge: "Try living 24 hours as a 16-year-old."
