IIT मुंबईसारख्या प्रतिष्ठित संस्थेत SC समाजातील विद्यार्थी साहिल वाकोडे याला संस्थेत झालेल्या कथित जाचाला बळी पडून संस्थात्मक मृत्यूला सामोरे जावे लागल्याची गंभीर तक्रार त्याच्या पालकांनी केली आहे. या प्रकरणी SC/ST अत्याचार प्रतिबंधक कायद्यानुसार गुन्हा दाखल करण्यात आला आहे; मात्र अद्याप कोणालाही अटक झालेली नाही किंवा कोणतीही ठोस कारवाई झालेली नाही. सन २००६ ते २०२६ या कालावधीत IIT Bombay मधील १४ विद्यार्थ्यांच्या आत्महत्यांची नोंद असल्याचे अहवालांतून समोर आले आहे. यामध्ये श्री. अनिकेत आंभोरे, श्री. दर्शन सोलंकी आणि श्री. साहिल वाकोडे यांसारख्या अनुसूचित जातीतील विद्यार्थ्यांच्या प्रकरणांचाही समावेश आहे. तीन मागासवर्गीय विद्यार्थ्यांचा मृत्यू होऊनही अनुसूचित जाती व अनुसूचित जमाती (अत्याचार प्रतिबंधक) नियम, १९९५ अंतर्गत असलेल्या संरक्षण यंत्रणेची प्रभावी अंमलबजावणी झाली का, हा गंभीर प्रश्न उपस्थित होतो. संस्थेतील SC/ST संरक्षण कक्ष आणि नोडल अधिकाऱ्यांच्या भूमिकेचीही सखोल चौकशी झाली पाहिजे. वेळीच प्रभावी हस्तक्षेप आणि कठोर कारवाई झाली असती, तर साहिलवर ही परिस्थिती ओढवली नसती, अशी त्याच्या कुटुंबाची भूमिका आहे. शैक्षणिक संस्थांमध्ये जातीय भेदभाव, सामाजिक बहिष्कार किंवा कोणत्याही प्रकारचा मानसिक छळ यांना थारा असता कामा नये. शिक्षणाची मंदिरे विद्यार्थ्यांसाठी सुरक्षित असली पाहिजेत; ती छळाची केंद्रे किंवा संस्थात्मक मृत्यूची ठिकाणे बनता कामा नयेत. साहिल वाकोडेच्या मृत्यूस कारणीभूत ठरलेल्या परिस्थितीची निष्पक्ष आणि सखोल चौकशी करून, दोषी आढळणाऱ्या प्रत्येक व्यक्तीवर विनाविलंब कठोर कायदेशीर कारवाई झालीच पाहिजे. साहिलप्रमाणेच डॉ. पायल तडवी आणि डॉ. स्तुती सोनावणे यांच्या प्रकरणांच्या पार्श्वभूमीवर महाराष्ट्रातील सर्व वैद्यकीय आणि दंतवैद्यकीय संस्थांमधील SC/ST संरक्षण यंत्रणेचा राज्यव्यापी आढावा घेऊन ती अधिक सक्षम करावी, ही आमची ठाम मागणी आहे. या प्रकरणी साहिल वाकोडेला न्याय मिळावा, दोषींवर तातडीने कठोर कायदेशीर कारवाई व्हावी आणि या प्रकरणात शासनाने त्वरित हस्तक्षेप करावा, यासाठी महाराष्ट्राचे मुख्यमंत्री तथा गृहमंत्री श्री. देवेंद्र फडणवीस जी यांना पत्र लिहून तातडीने कारवाई करण्याची मागणी केली आहे. साहिल वाकोडेला न्याय मिळालाच पाहिजे! #JusticeForSahilWakode #InstitutionalDeath #EndCasteDiscrimination #SCSTRights #IITBombay
