My insane prediction: 5 years from now Unreal Engine is just a fork of #ThreeJS with extra tooling.
TFW Tim Sweeney says he's competing with you 😶

Mixed your probe with SSR and @garrettkjohnson three-mesh-bvh for a crazy hybrid updating reflection flow.

@pmndrs - might be something you can build a react-three-fiber interface for. :)

Anthropic writes about what I wrote about last month: ben3d.ca/blog/ants_in_the_ma…
“Our experiments suggest that small AI models may be months away from being capable enough to self-replicate on commercial IoT devices, like smart ovens and off-brand Android TV boxes. A replicator like this would be challenging to shut down, since there’s no centralized point to shut off - though it may be slow (with a doubling time of days). Unlike non-AI malware, it could also figure out unfamiliar devices on its own. In our evals, a 9B model got inference running on 8 of the 9 hardware types we tested. Models of 30B parameters and under can already complete many of the individual steps for replication today, though they make mistakes when composing them end to end. In our simplified evals, GLM-5.2 and stronger models are capable of end to end replication. If small models improve at their historical rate, they’ll match this capability level by the end of this year. Small weight-based replicators may be possible soon after.” -@bucketofkets @willzhou97 anthropic.com/research/self-…

Global Illumination Light Probes in @ThreeJS is now 4x faster to calculate and more accurate. The calculation was CPU-bound, so I used an ArrayCamera to bulk render probes, and I integrate their results fully, rather than just 512 samples. github.com/mrdoob/three.js/p…

Nasty surprise while working with #WebGL today. Turns out Chrome's SwiftShader backend has a buggy atan2 implementation when runtime y = negative zero. github.com/mrdoob/three.js/p… github.com/bhouston/swift-sh…

I agree with Ben; Garrett's path tracer is just amazing. ❤️‍🔥

thrilled to announce we have built the “trick old people into handing over their bank passwords machine” from the classic sci-fi horror novel “don’t build the trick old people into handing over their bank passwords machine”
Introducing Griffin, the first model to pass the video Turing test. 48% of people who talked to it live thought it was a real human. Previous systems have had a pass rate <3%. It is #1 on NVIDIA's benchmark for full-duplex AI video. It’s the first Human Interaction Model (HIM).
Community note
The 48% figure and "video Turing test" claim are from Tavus's own study of 54 one-minute calls, not independently verified or using a standard protocol. Griffin-Lite leads NVIDIA's VideoFDB benchmark on their public leaderboard. cellcog.ai/blog/tavus-gri… research.nvidia.com/labs/amri/proj… tech-ish.com/2026/10/02/tav
