Merchant Bitcoin adoption will not be won by telling every shop owner to become a Bitcoin expert. Give them tools that solve ordinary problems: accept payments cheaply, generate invoices, reconcile sales, protect keys, manage liquidity and integrate with systems they already use. Infrastructure first. Ideology optional.

Lightning changes the Bitcoin conversation from: “Can Bitcoin scale to everyday payments?” to: “How do we build reliable liquidity, routing and payment experiences on top of a scarce settlement asset?” The interesting engineering is increasingly happening between the layers.

Bitcoin infrastructure in Africa should not be measured by how closely it copies products built elsewhere. The interesting work is adapting an open monetary network to local realities: mobile money, informal commerce, cross border payments, community finance and currencies with very different histories. Bitcoin is global. Useful products are local.

Financial sovereignty is not about replacing one custodian with a better looking custodian. It is the ability to hold value, verify ownership and transact without requiring permanent permission from an intermediary. Bitcoin makes that possible. The harder work now is making sovereignty usable.

We've paused Blink services while we investigate a security incident. An attacker accessed a limited number of custodial accounts and withdrew funds. The large majority of funds are secure. Non-custodial wallets are not affected.

We’ve been building PactAgent, an open-source project exploring a question I think becomes increasingly important as AI agents gain more autonomy: What happens when an AI agent can negotiate, make commitments, and interact with real economic value? Most AI agents today are primarily information agents. They search, reason, call tools, interact with APIs, and generate outputs. But an economic agent introduces a very different problem. If an agent can negotiate with another agent, agree to terms, and eventually participate in settlement, giving the model unrestricted authority over that process creates an unacceptable trust boundary. PactAgent approaches the problem differently. The core idea is to separate intelligence from economic authority. An AI model may interpret information and propose what should happen next, but deterministic policy decides whether that action is actually permitted. Conceptually, the flow looks something like: Discovery → Negotiation → Policy Validation → Agreement → Signed Protocol Events → Settlement The project is being built around open protocols and Bitcoin-native infrastructure, including Nostr, Pontmore/PIPs, and Cashu. A few principles are shaping the architecture: → AI is not the trust root. Models can assist with reasoning and proposals without receiving unrestricted control over economic actions. → Economic actions should be bounded. Spending limits, agreement constraints, identities, authorization rules, and settlement conditions should be enforceable outside the model. → Protocol state should be verifiable. Important lifecycle events should not exist only inside an LLM conversation. → Privacy matters. Documents, prompts, proofs, keys, salts, and sensitive transaction information should remain private unless disclosure is explicitly required. → Agents should be able to interact across open infrastructure. The long-term objective isn’t another closed AI platform. It’s exploring how independently operated agents can discover each other, negotiate and eventually settle using open protocols. There is still a lot to build. Right now, that means working through the less glamorous but important engineering questions around identities, relay communication, workflow isolation, durable state, concurrent execution, failure handling, settlement boundaries and black-box testing. That’s also what makes the project interesting. PactAgent is ultimately an experiment in constrained machine agency: giving software enough autonomy to participate in economic coordination without giving probabilistic models unlimited economic authority. I’ll be sharing more of the architecture, implementation decisions, mistakes, tests and lessons as the project develops. Code and current progress: github.com/comwanga/pactagen… Feedback, technical criticism and contributions are welcome. #Bitcoin #AI #Nostr #Cashu #OpenSource #BitcoinDevelopment #AIAgents #ProtocolEngineering

Bitcoin is not an “investment group.” You don’t need an expert trader, a WhatsApp group or someone holding your money and promising returns. Kenyans can already buy BTC through on-ramps and receive it into self-custody. @bitika_KE @minmo_to Buy bitcoin. Hold your keys. Ignore promised returns. Don’t confuse scams using Bitcoin’s name with Bitcoin itself.
PUBLIC CAUTION AGAINST INVESTMENT SCAMS!

Bitcoin first as useful infrastructure, not as a sermon. Afribit Kibera is building a real circular economy in Kibera around waste collection, youth work, and local trade. Worth reading Episode 4 with Ronnie Mdawida.
🎙️ FROM THE FOUNDER’S DESK | EPISODE 4 What happens when Bitcoin is built around real community needs? In Episode 4, we sit down with Ronnie Mdawida, Founder of @AfribitKibera. 🇰🇪 We explore how @AfribitKibera is building a Bitcoin circular economy in Kibera, Nairobi. We discuss: 🔸 Ronnie’s Bitcoin journey: How he discovered Bitcoin in 2019. And how it changed his view of money. ♻️ Building around community needs: Waste management. Youth opportunities. Local businesses. Savings. 🔸 Bitcoin and Lightning: How Lightning helps make small payments easier and more practical. 🤝 Building trust: Why trust matters as much as technology when building in a community. 🔸 Bitcoin education: How AfriBit Kibera uses incentivized learning to help people understand Bitcoin. 🔐 Self-custody and security: From self-custody to group custody and multisignature wallets. 🔸 What people do with their sats: Community members are saving, starting businesses and building better lives. 🔸 Community-led education: Participants are becoming educators and teaching others. 🚀 What comes next: We discuss the future of AfriBit Kibera and the challenge of scaling the model. Ronnie’s approach is simple: “Build something useful enough that even someone who does not care about Bitcoin would still value it.” Bitcoin is not the activity. The economic activity comes first. Bitcoin provides the infrastructure. Read the full feature below. 👇 bitcoinnews.africa/how-afrib…

$3.50 Disney ticket in 1971. $189 today. That’s ~8% a year, every year, for over five decades. Official CPI rarely admits that number. Gold does. A house does. School fees do. A day at a theme park does. Most currencies worldwide are running the same play: print, devalue, hope wages catch up. They don’t. In Kenya the shilling went from roughly 7 per dollar in the early 1970s to about 129 now. That’s why a “good job” still requires side hustles, the paycheck is priced in melting money. This isn’t a Kenyan story. It’s the default setting of fiat. Argentina, Turkey, Nigeria, Lebanon, even the dollar itself when measured against scarce assets. If your income isn’t compounding at least as fast as the things you actually buy, you are getting poorer in silence. Hustle culture is a coping mechanism. Sound money is the exit. Stop racing a currency that is designed to lose. Start holding something that isn’t.
If your salary isn't increasing by at least 8% yearly, you're getting poorer. 😠 Why is the "hustle culture" such a thing in Kenya? Because your regular job isn't enough to keep up with the devaluation of the currency. Your hustles make up for that 8% loss of purchasing power. It doesn't have to be that way. Stop hustling and start bitcoining.

The world map you've known all your life is wrong! Nearly every country at the UN voted to adopt a new map that shows a more accurate size of Africa after ~500 years of "symbolic minimization." Only the US voted against it. I explained why this is important on CNN

There is no second best. Improve your lot in life by saving in bitcoin, earning in bitcoin, and spending bitcoin. Opting out of fiat and fiat derivatives is the way to fix your situation and those around you too. It's also the only asset that is accessible to all without an ID!

Africa isn't "adopting" Bitcoin Africa IS Bitcoin. 🔥 Africa is the fastest growing bitcoin circular economy. Here’s the Lightning-powered continent🧵👇 Pan-African Lightning infrastructure @FreeRoutingAf — Africa Free Routing Largest free Lightning routing network + developer bootcamps (450+ devs trained, 60+ projects built). Recent Addis Ababa bootcamp + upcoming Kigali. @Machankura8333 — Machankura Lightning on any feature phone via USSD/SMS. No smartphone or data needed. Live in Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda & more. Kenya 🇰🇪 @bitsacco — Bitcoin savings cooperatives (personal + group) @BitDevsNBO — BitDevs Nairobi (technical Bitcoin/Lightning development) @AfribitKibera — Circular economy pilot in Kibera @bitika_KE — M-Pesa ↔ Bitcoin/Lightning onboarding Nigeria 🇳🇬 @mavapay— Lightning payments, instant BTC ↔ Naira, cross-border & merchant tools Strong BitDevs chapters (Lagos, Kano, Uyo) building open-source Lightning solutions South Africa 🇿🇦 @sisonkeBTC — Bitcoin Sisonke Education + gamification + Lightning merchant circular economies @BitcoinLoxion — Bitcoin Loxion (Khayelitsha) Township circular economy with Lightning payments & education @BitcoinUbuntu— Free Bitcoin Diploma, self-custody workshops & merchant onboarding (PoWBoT) @BitcoinPlett — Plettenberg Bay circular economy (Lightning merchant onboarding) @BitcoinWitsand— Advanced coastal circular economy (earn, spend & circulate sats daily) Ethiopia 🇪🇹 @BitDevsAddis — BitDevs Addis Ababa New technical Bitcoin-only meetup + active Lightning developer training Tanzania 🇹🇿 @bitcoinzanzibar — Bitcoin Beach Hotel (Lightning payments on the Indian Ocean) Other circular efforts growing in Arusha and beyond Uganda, Ghana, Rwanda & more BitDevs Kampala, BitDevs Accra, and the next Lightning Developer Bootcamp landing in Kigali. Education, merchant onboarding and Lightning routing are spreading fast. This isn’t hype. Africans are using Bitcoin as actual money — for savings, remittances, merchant payments, energy, and local circular economies — primarily over Lightning. Sound money wins when it’s used every day. Follow the builders. Support the real projects. Africa is showing the world how Bitcoin was meant to be used. ⚡
