David massively revised his preprint. Check out the new version! Some highlights are more evidence for why range expansion specifically works better than an admixture pulse and what genes may have been inherited from the expanding "mode 3" population biorxiv.org/content/10.64898…
New solo paper from David Reich might provide some clarity to the Muddle in the Middle. Maybe Humans and Neanderthals are both hybrids of an old expansion of the "MSA population" and local European / African humans:

50 BC: the tallest men a Roman legion ever faced were the Germans and the Celts, and they lived on the herd. Caesar wrote it down through gritted teeth. 800: the tallest people in Europe were the Norse, and they lived on butter, cheese, fish and salt meat. 1850: the tallest people on earth were the Cheyenne and the Sioux, and they lived on bison. 1899: the shortest men in the British army came out of the mill towns, and they lived on bread, tea and jam. 1954: the shortest people in the developed world were the Japanese. Milk went into every school lunch that year and they grew 10cm inside a generation. 2000: the two Koreas shared a language, a border and a set of grandparents, and the south, on beef and eggs, stood up to 8cm above the north, on rice. 2026: the tallest people on earth are the Dutch, and they drink more milk per head than any nation alive. Height is the only nutrition survey that cannot be funded, fudged or reworded by a committee. It is taken against a wall, in front of a mother, and it has returned the same verdict on every continent for 2,000 years. The tall ones had the herd. The short ones had the field.

Warning from Duval et al. 'In particular, our results show that mCT scanning may not only affect the preservation of the collagen in bones and teeth used for Radiocarbon dating, but also induce a non-negligible radiation dose in the enamel, thus artificially aging a given fossil sample dated by ESR'

My art Humans were processing wild sorghum grains at Ngalue Cave 100,000 years ago in Mozambique, not waiting for full agriculture to exist. Researchers found 555 artifacts at this site that differed from those at other sites in Africa at the time, and 1/

A possible bison kill site from 30,000-35,000 years ago in northern Oklahoma. There's actually a surprising amount of evidence for pre- Last Glacial Maximum humans in America, sites that have been dismissed and seemingly forgotten, which we probably need to look at again.

This is the electric plane Elon dreamed of! Anders Forslund of Heart Aerospace joins @Jason to show off their electric plane, which used up just $5 worth of power for a full 20-minute trip. Could this change short-haul flights? What locations would these flights best be used at?
