current status: watching cursor update the design system in figma from inside the codebase.

i read ~2,000 lines of agent-written code this week while doing a design system refactor.
the agent caught a ton of things that i wouldn't have, but missed a ton of lay-ups. had i not combed through the diffs, it would've been a nightmare trying to resolve regressions.
all of this was necessary because we spent the last 8 months not reading the code, and just verifying that the front-end looked good.
that's fine and dandy, until you need to change the design system and realize that agents have overridden default component styles more often than they used them, so you're S.O.L.
thank god that agents are really good at find and replace en masse. maybe 5-10% of the time they were wrong, but otherwise this would've been a months-long boondoggle.
now I have shadcn/lint plugged in, safeguarding my front-end from agent slop. good riddance!

i'll bet the venn diagram between people who love Factorio and the people who love software factories is a near-perfect circle.
besides for really neet demos of words on screen moving this is almost always utterly useless
I could be wrong, but I have never seen someone produce anything of worth. Thinking directly of Steve Yeggie's last 2 years of just utter hot garbage. Factories and Factory Factories appear to be absolutely useless from a real product perspective.

Parallels to the music industry in 2000s. If you can code your own version of Keynote instantly, what about the IP of Keynote? Software takes R&D investment to get to the right concept UI etc. What happens when that R&D is instantly copyable?

are you really a design engineer if you arent writing 1,500 word RFCs that explain how you're going to overhaul to design system and add strict checks to the CI pipeline?

No wonder why the AI companies are struggling…management consultants don’t build new companies, they manage the death of established enterprise.
it's a breath of fresh air to hear that joining AI companies is the high status job in 2026, not working in powerpoint/excel at banking/consulting jobs
turns out that gen Z/gen Alpha want it all - being able to do well financially, be energized by your work, and work on interesting things
you no longer need to make a tradeoff
get to AI anyway you can right now
the advice "go into banking/consulting" after college/grad school is officially dead
