Pools is turning out to be more than just a passion project because i'm learning so much along the way. i love data visualization, especially when it's based on historical data. live inputs for art installations IRL have been a large part of my work for over a decade, but something about being able to visualize history is really fxcking cool to me. as i get deeper into i find myself frustrated with how late i am to it, and how underdeveloped it is. but that is quickly offset with the excitement of unrealized potential. there is some hardcore development on core & infra levels happening, as well as with app dev in the ecosystem around it. i'm trying to position myself in both; this is just who i have always been. head-down work in the industry, and separately obsess over creative endeavors that must leave the confines of my mind. while i'm privately working on some "less fun" projects leveraging the zk privacy layer, Pools has been an absolute dive into creative madness. from obsessing over how to generate & present the art, to a marketplace to trade them in, there's a ton of stuff in between that is filling in a vacuum where interfacing with a creative project can live. art needs an audience. how cool is it to think that the audience can stay anonymous if they choose to? this is a divergence from what we've seen with NFTs on Ethereum, and Inscriptions on Bitcoin. Provenance can be private or public if you want it to be, and that decision in and of itself contributes to the art that's being generated. zk generative runtime network art on Zcash. i have no idea how i got here, but i know where i'm going with it.

i've been working on this project i've named Pools. a collection of seed based non-fungible unique generations from the @Zcash network. everything is arboreal on Zcash so what if we called the equivalent of NFTs on the EVM "Rings," on the Zcash network? instead of creating an inscription using ordinals, we could "cut" a ring. i love the vernacular, because a ring from a tree gives us the history and environmental record of the tree it was cut from. back to Pools; since we're pre-consensus for proofs till ZSAs arrive, i've got a migration path from a registry enforced by on-chain actions. ZSA-testnet is messy, but it worked to confirm. will share more soon on this. i'm gonna release this project pretty soon. here's a sample of the art generated from data found on-chain (yes, using extant data as the metadata). it loops seamlessly and you can export gifs or mp4s of it, as well as png stills. output can be h.264 or full color profile av1, so understandably it looks like crap on x. the live output is actual runtime art, running on a fully custom render engine with zero rendering dependencies 🙏🏼 also, it will technically be the first zk generative art project on Zcash as far as i know. non shielded inputs don't get a zk proof, which makes it a cool hybrid.
