Using @buildkite preflights (buildkite.com/docs/platform/…) on a macOS runner against the orb's tunneled dev server, opening Safari and collecting a web perf profile. Found lots of CSS/layout speedups.

Earlier this year we migrated CI to @buildkite. Gone are the flakey network blips, slow CI start times, fragile pipeline definitions. @lox and the team have been there to support our migration and now the Origin launch.

We think we can move off GitHub. We are (made up number) 80% of the way there with Orbs + Amp Git as they are excellent at agent-driven development, parallel unsupervised work, and reducing friction around checkouts/worktrees (arguably not required anymore).
Biggest outstanding blockers are a robust and native (or tightly integrated) CI/CD system, formal structured review/merge workflows (arguably not as critical), issue tracking, and (MAYBE) mature enterprise/OSS capabilities.
Keeping an external CI system isn't hard (we are using Buildkite) and maintaining your own lightweight issue tracker (is also very doable).
What else is needed? Who else thinks they can do this?
If the code matters less, what about the code host? What about that warm fuzzy connected feeling we all got from GitHub until a couple years ago?
We can bring it back.

The world needs a way off GitHub Actions.
For the past three weeks, we’ve been building an open-source compatibility layer that runs Actions workflows natively on @buildkite without changing them.
Buildkite powers CI for repos where scale is table stakes. Pipelines are dynamically programmable and parallel by default, with every job running in its own environment. Test suites that take hours - or days - on other tools can fan out and finish in minutes.
Actions uses a different model: static workflows, with sequential steps sharing a mutable workspace.
We now transparently compile that model into our Buildkite pipelines, so teams can keep their existing workflows and actions while gaining Buildkite’s speed at scale, control and reliability.
It’s early and there are rough edges, but it's already proving useful across our design partners. If you want to start shifting workloads, give it a go:
