here to laugh & learn stuff

I've got a lot of thoughts on this as well but 1 immediate thing that I'm sitting with is just more engaged I've felt as a black male after (1) getting married (2) having kids & then (3) becoming a homeowner / property owner (and maybe a 4th - choosing the city I want to live in)

I wouldn't say I ever fit the views represented in this screenshot bt I think I've personally underestimated how much more your basic trappings of a middle class life change your feelings of "ownership" over what's happening around you

eh you can argue the last 3 but the arch android was excellent I liked electric lady and age of pleasure too I think the rollouts / persona between albums just felt like an elder millennial / late Gen Xer who never really kept up with the times. talent was always there though
People used to pretend to be really Into Janelle Monáe, something you don’t really see as much these days.

1 of the things I've valued about working a corporate job is learning how to move large # of ppl toward a single, measurable goal. There r always different opinions, but when there's a clear threat, it's clear when we need to lock in & ignore distractions to address that 1 issue
The median net worth of Black American households declined by 25 percent from 2022 to 2025, according to newly released Federal Reserve data cepr.net/publications/black-…

another thing I've learned working corporate - momentum spirals. like.. if you're on a losing streak, all else equal you will likely remain on a losing streak, and winners tend to win more. the exceptions come when you are willing to sacrifice or shock the system.

black people have been systematically made into an underclass here, and there's a number of reasons for why that has persisted. but the sacrifices and shocks to the system have to factor in at some point to change direction. feels like we're not there yet.

I'd like to understand how CA politicians view data like this like..is it just "hey this is 1 data pt of many, & what we care about is up"? is there a cynical read (e.g., "we don't care for xyz reasons")? I'd like to believe I'm missing context, & it's not just more navelgazing
“Just move somewhere cheaper” Gen Z took your advice and is now executing a full on takeover of South Carolina

I knew about prop 19 putting restrictions on transferring your basis to one of your kids I did not know about the ability to transfer the basis to yourself deeply unserious state
Most everyone knows about Prop 13 but once you understand the addition of Prop 19 you realize how truly evil California housing policy is.

memory's coming together...this was the "slavery vs. enslaved person" lady too? tough timeline sheesh
Replying to @BreakingBrown
I still have the screenshot where she gave me a disrespectful post with the hand clap emoji between words, telling me how "she teaches this subject." For context, it was this video that I had called her out on: (1/2) x.com/nickimayonews/status/1…

Career suicide
Jonathan Majors delivers the devastating truth: “There are three ways Islam will conquer the West: through immigration, through the wombs of our women, and by using our own Western freedoms against us.” Then he goes on and REALLY lays it out: “Islam is not consistent with the fundamentals of Western values…Their ultimate goal, their greatest goal, is jihad.” Run Hide Fight: Infidels. first time I've heard some news about him in a minute real good quote, needed to be said weeks ago
Montrezl Harrell says Royce White and Enes Kanter are corny “That stuff is corny and lame. I’m an actual WNBA fan. I’ve been to most of their games and went to Game 1 when the Aces made their back-to-back run. I was down there on the floor conversing with the MVP, All-Stars and the MVPs of the league. For guys like that to use their platform to disrespect it, that’s corny. I’m not a fan of it at all. You don’t gain any cool points off of it. You’re two grown men running into arenas and public spaces making a mockery of yourselves. Who is that helping? I’m never going to say I understand what you’re doing, because what you’re doing is corny. I know what you’re trying to say about men not playing with women, but just use your words as a grown man. Don’t try to berate women. Even when Enes Kanter got into it with Natasha Cloud, that was corny. You don’t gain cool points off that.” (Via scoopb.com/2026/09/unfiltere…)

I used to be all in on these pro public school arguments then I moved to LA and started researching schooling for my kids then I met a teacher through a friend, & it made me even more convinced it's not the only option. but private school has got to be on the table out here
…what if the assertion that public schools are “unsafe and cannot serve your children” is bunk that people talk themselves into to justify making a socially corrosive choice to protect their class status? just a thought!

I get it’s NYC, but it’s criminal (pun intended) that Black mayors in places like Memphis and Baltimore don’t get anywhere close to the praise Mamdani gets for the progress they’ve made in cities that have far less resources.
Memphis is seeing a major crime decline in the past year. Murders down 37.4% Robberies down 41.7% Agg assaults down 43.5% Car thefts down 57%

one of the comments called out that this may just be a shift to apartments but (anecdotally) I remember searching for a new-ish build a few years ago to rent for my growing family. Very little supply beyond 2 units, at least in the LA area. might just be a CA problem though
The US has essentially stopped building small/starter homes.
