How the Identity Case Against Lindsay Clancy Was Built on One Manโs Word
The Commonwealth must prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Lindsay Clancy killed her children. It never did.
It proved the children died, how they died, and that Lindsay had been seeking help for anxiety for the prior four months. Everything connecting her to the killings comes from one person: Patrick Clancy.
Patrick was the other adult in the house that day. He ran 37 minutes of errands. He found the children. He made the 911 call.
In any standard homicide investigation, he would have been examined and independently cleared. He wasnโt. Instead, investigators adopted his account, prosecutors built their case on it, and the judge recited it as fact.
Every core fact of identity is his alone: that they were alive at 5:15, that she said she tried to kill herself, and that she said they were in the basement. No one else heard her speak. The 911 call doesnโt capture it. First responders never heard her say a word.
The physical evidence doesnโt support his story. Lindsay is excluded from DNA on one ligature. On another, the science points to him at 220,000 to her 11. The third bandโs contributor was withheld from the jury.
There are no fingerprints on any band or the knife. The state claims she strangled three children with sustained force, and the lab found almost nothing of her.
No time of death was ever presented for the children, though rigor and body cooling were documented for two at the scene. Lindsayโs temperature was 82ยฐF. Phone activity went dark for approximately four hours in the middle of the day while both adults were home.
Seized camera data was never shown. The stateโs own digital expert admitted the phone records show a device in use, not who was using it.
Judge Sullivanโs ruling addresses none of this. It calls the evidence โphysical and circumstantialโ without naming a single piece of physical evidence that points to her. It accepts an uncleared, interested witness as the foundation of a murder case and calls that sufficient.
That isnโt proof of identity. Itโs one manโs account, never tested, adopted by everyone whose job was to test it.
