I actually lived in Lynn, Massachusetts, for a little while. Anyone from the Boston area probably remembers the old saying: “Lynn, Lynn, the City of Sin.”
But watching this video, there’s nothing funny about it.
A mob of masked teens stormed a McDonald’s in Lynn, and a teenage employee was attacked behind the counter. Some stood around filming while others joined in.
When I was growing up, you worried about three things: the police, getting in trouble at school, and what was going to happen when your parents found out.
Today, too many kids seem more worried about getting the video on social media than what happens afterward.
Four juveniles were arrested, but arrests come after the damage is already done.
At some point we have to stop blaming everything except the people doing it. Parents have a responsibility. Kids have a responsibility. And actions need real consequences.
We’re not doing young people any favors by teaching them otherwise.
