THE MOST INTERESTING OPEN CALL On 7/19 I entered one of the most unusual open calls I’ve ever come across. Redcar Contemporary Art Gallery in the U.K. What made this extraordinary was that they didn’t ask to see the art. Think about that… No finished work to see. This OC was in the telling. Artists worldwide, were asked to submit a written description. Selections were made from those words. Only after being selected did the artwork enter the equation. There was something incredibly vulnerable about removing the visual entirely and asking: Can the words create enough of a space for someone else to see what you see? My work was accepted. Below are my words. Oh. I forgot. I hadn't even created or developed this work yet... mhmm. The Architect The space I know best is silence. Conversations in the world are not a beginning, but an observation. The quiet reveal of a circumstance. The work I create evolves between painting, film, music, and the use of ai as a foundation not as a separate practice but as one continuous language. These mediums combined, allow my memories to formulate the structures through light which inevitably becomes the movement. The forms in “The Architect” are less about structure, relying more on the adaptation to walk through the conflict. Answering questions that arise: What was left? What remains after everything else has fallen away? My childhood was quite brutal. Documenting the past was never of interest to me, however I’d be lying if I said I'm uninterested in reforming it. “The Architect” is a contemporary expression which creates the space where autonomy quietly, yet deliberately lives without asking. And then The Architect was revealed.
