Avery the Poke Kid passed away suddenly last night. I’m not known for crying a lot but for a few reasons this specific story brought me to tears.
The kid has been battling pancreatic cancer for years. His story is well documented on Instagram for those who are not familiar. We all battle different demons in our lives day to day but how stupid does most of that feel when you think about a child like Avery. He is living every day in pain, checking in and out of the hospital, procedure after procedure, test after test while trying to maintain a positive attitude and put a smile on everyday. It is the ultimate privilege check. What the F do any of us have to whine about in our lives. This kid is a warrior. And his parents and the community supporting him are true heroes.
Avery found solace in nothing other than the hobby that has personally saved my life and the lives of so many of my friends in our darkest hours: the world of Pokemon.
To celebrate Avery’s life and honor his family, tonight from 7-10pm PST we're donating 10¢ from every pack of $1 or more opened on Tilt Rips to Avery's family's GoFundMe.
@TiltRips is committing to a minimum donation of $10,000 USD to help his family with medical bills and anything else they may need at this time. I cannot imagine what they are going through right now and we hope that this very tiny gesture can inspire others to give.
