The World Cup picks up where the ancients left off. The classical world invented the arena. The Greeks had Olympia. The Romans packed into the Colosseum.
Only a fraction of state school pupils get to learn where it all came from, but Classics for All is changing that.

Chronos was the Greek personification of time itself, and he lives on in many English words: chronology, chronicle, anachronism. The list goes on and on, showing how Greek and Latin are woven potently into English.
