ATTENTION: @DeptVetAffairs @SecVetAffairs When a 100% service connected veteran with multiple combat tours reaches out for a counseling session for PTSD related issues and has to wait for a month??? That is a problem. He was also removed from the VA system for being aggressive on the phone after waiting a month to speak to staff just to get scheduled (he was politically incorrect with his statements in reality) This staff member made a huge decision because he was offended. Thank God his PCP saw what happened and called the veteran to find out what happened. Can we do better with faster care for veterans in crisis and consistent appointments…Also, bouncing from therapist to therapist is not helpful either. DM me for this veteran’s contact info. He served almost 30 years.

Stop Gap Mission Let us introduce you to Mark. He served in Desert Shield, and Desert Storm, and was honorably discharged USMC with 80% service related disability. Mark and his sweet wife have been going thru a rough patch after enduring 2 major storms, one of which took out his HVAC unit.  As a result, he has been attempting to cool his home with a portable a/c unit (the kind that you put the hose out the window) which has caused his utility bill to become unaffordable. FOOD MISSION Matt is 100% combat related disabled.  He was honorably discharged after serving in Kosovo.  One night on patrol, a humvee crash, resulted in his being evacuated to have both shoulder & knee replacement, combined with additional injuries requiring multiple surgeries. Matt is going thru a frustrating patch, where in addition to several factors piling up on him, his refrigerator went out, while he was not home.  By the time the discovery was made, he had lost all the groceries he had just purchased the day before.  It was the straw that broke the camels back, so to speak. Stop Gap Mission We are assisting Army veteran Ken A., and his registered medical assist dog, Ruffles.  Ken was discharged after 11 years of service in the Army, with 100% service related disability.   Normally Ken is able to hold his own, however Ruffles had a medical emergency that required an unexpected critical care surgery.  Fortunately Ruffles made it thru his operation, and will now be on a monthly medication regiment, but he is healing.  Ruffles & Ken will be watching out for, and taking care of each other, going forward. KenA went into rent arrearage while paying to keep his service dog, Ruffles alive.  We can jump in with a one time assist of $2765 to keep KenA and Ruffles secured. EMERGENCY MISSION Army veteran Amir was honorably discharged as an E-4 from the Army, with 70% disability. His world, as he knew it, came crashing down around him last month, with the death of his Mother, whom he describes his “best friend.” In addition to paying for her burial, his family expanded overnight from 2 kids, to 4, when he was tasked with taking in his 2 youngest siblings. Our veteran is employed, in addition to his VA pay. His landlord has agreed to give him to Friday to catch up $3k rent arrearage, and he will be able to sustain his additional responsibilities going forward.  His Mom’s funeral expenses temporarily set him back, in addition to getting his younger siblings settled in to their new school. This is very devastating to me. I love her so very much. She is scheduled to be buried in Arlington National Cemetery. I will be following her soon. She’s with Jesus Christ. Emergency Mission to Stabilize Code of Vets is partnering with Seminole County SVO to assist Kevin, who served 10 years in the Army, during the Desert Storm - Gulf War Era.  Kevin was honorably discharged with 100% service related disability. The rental home Kevin, his 64 y/o wife, and 13 y/o daughter live in, has been condemned by the county.  He needs to make an emergency move, with very little warning. The SVO explains that they have helped this vet secure a lease, but will need $3k to make it happen.  This amount represents deposit + first & last months rent.  This will be a one time assist, as the Seminole County SVO will be providing wrap around services. STABILIZE MISSION Army veteran Campbell is a resilient Army Veteran honorably served our country for seven years. He provides for his family, including wife, 2 kids, ages 7 & 2, as well as his elderly Mother.  He has consistently maintained civilian financial independence until a recent workplace injury forced him onto temporary disability, while he underwent rotator cuff & nerve repair surgeries. Because disability benefits only paid a small percentage of his regular salary, he faces a temporary $2,750 rent shortfall. Second Chance Mission Navy vet Gene has been living in a Veteran Transitional Living Program.  He has successfully completed the program and has received a housing voucher from US Vets.  His case worker tells us that he is sober, has a lease, and well on his way.  He does have one hurdle to cross… a car repair, so that he can get the half hour to and from work.
