Nineteen million Americans have tried golf since 2020. About one in four of them stayed… yet, “Grow the game,” continues to be co-opted by every commercial cartel in golf... Programs like Ops 36 deserve more attention if we care about doing it sustainably.

Earlier this year, Josh Hill capped an underwhelming college career by hitting a top and carding double bogey in a 4-for-2 team playoff at the NCAA Championship, ending Tennessee's season. He didn't do much this summer, and ranked barely inside the top 100 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, Hill was a longshot to make the GB&I Walker Cup team. But then Hill starred at the team's training camp around the South of Ireland Amateur, where he made the quarterfinals. Still, Hill was a surprise selection by captain Dean Robertson. Even many Tennessee fans were texting coach Brennan Webb asking if that was their Josh Hill. At No. 93 in the world, Hill was the worst-ranked player on either side. And he'd heard all of it. And yet, after all that, Josh Hill is forever a Walker Cup legend.
