Let me get this straight: the NYPD opened fire on the subway yesterday in an attempt to stop a man who evaded the $2.90 fare (?), and in the process they ended up shooting him, 2 bystanders, and another cop?
The caption accompanied by the community note below is *wild*.
Earlier today, one of our officers was shot while protecting our subway system. I am relieved to report he is in good condition now, and we have arrested the suspect who put so many lives in danger. I cannot thank these officers enough for their bravery.

Note needed. What the mayor neglects to mention in this post is that the officer was shot by other NYPD officers. Those same NYPD officers shot two other bystanders in an attempt to apprehend someone who did not pay the $2.90 fare to ride the NY subway.

If any kid is hurt tonight, responsibility will fall on the mayor and univ presidents.
Other leaders and schools have found a safe, de-escalatory path. This is the opposite of leadership and endangers public safety. A nightmare in the making.
I urge the Mayor to reverse course.

Just had explosive interaction w/ @Columbia’s heightened security coming onto campus. They followed me to my office & then lied, saying I didn’t scan my ID for entry (I did) & I pushed an officer (I didn’t). An ugly scene followed. They did this to me, a tenured, full professor.
