The game and editor were built on the same binary, apparently they could switch back and forth between the editor and the game Unity style

The Id editors for Wolfenstein and Doom (and even Quake) wasn’t near that fancy. Granted Id did pump out games way faster than TTLG

I saw the editor for Ultima 6 once in a magazine and had to have the game. I thought the editor came with it haha
