There is a lot of excitement for Annie Andrews in SC.
I haven’t seen moderate and dem voters (especially the younger bloc) here this fired up for a candidate in a very long time.
Darline Graham has a fight on her hands and I have seen no evidence that she knows how to handle it.
If Ralph Norman were on the ballot it would still be closer than usual, but he would easily win.
There’s a real chance a Democrat becomes a Senator here for the first time since 1998.

To pile on that - there are no candidates on the ballot right now that MAGA / Republican voters are excited for.
The turnout will be depressed. If Andrews wins it will be because Republicans stayed home - and frankly there’s little reason for them to show up.
Costs here are among the most expensive in the nation, income tax sucks, no one knows where the money goes and salaries are significantly depressed because employers can’t afford to pay more. $60k is minimum wage scraping-by here.
Alan Wilson is the closest candidate we have that probably gets it. That’s about it.
Virtually everyone else on the ticket is another version of Darline Graham because the state GOP has run their operation into the ground and has no clue what they’re doing and has already thrown out the literal rule book to coronate Graham.
If this is the scene in a “deep-red” state like SC imagine an actual swing state.

Anecdotal but I’ve met exactly TWO Darline Graham supporters since she announced.
One was an elderly woman in her maybe 70s who had a Darline T Shirt on at the GOP Convention - she was the only Darline anything I saw.
The other was a Gen Z guy seemed to have done massive amounts of cocaine and proceeded to screech at me incoherently that the GOP needs more “leaders without principals” like Darline and that she would bring back the confederate flag or something.
He also said the fastest way for any candidate in SC to win is for them to “legalize machine-guns for hog killing” so do with that information what you will.

The war in Iran highly unpopular. One can say, "It's worth it," that's a difference of opinion. Totally unserious to claim people would need to be paid to criticize or oppose it. If anything, I get "yelled at" for not saying more against it. As if that would even matter.

I think there’s this general misconception that self employed people have it easier.
Not true.
I wake up early before clients come online, deal with admin stuff, go to the gym, go to my home office and put out fires with my (admittedly mostly great) clients till 5-6 and then 6-8 is more business running / admin work.
I’ve got taxes coming out everywhere, I’m paying both sides of FICA for myself, SC state taxes that go who knows where, insurance policies and their forms so I don’t get caught up in some BS lawsuit because someone outside my company did something dumb, on top of that I’m filing taxes FOUR times a year, trying to predict what I owe every time based on fluctuating income, keeping enough on hand for taxes so that I don’t underpay and get penalized but ALSO dont overpay and tie up money I could’ve used to grow, dealing with BS obligatory filing deadlines and IRS paperwork, and my health insurance options are Obamacare at healthcare.gov and that’s about it.
Healthy 34 year old male, $2000 deductible, $500/mo. And that’s a “good” plan. I’m blessed but still only covers a select few providers and I have to fill out forms and sit on the phone for most specialists to even be considered for insurance.
My employee is gonna also have to go through healthcare.gov cause we don’t get access to any of the fancier group plans large businesses get without workarounds I can’t find time to figure out and he’s got a young child.
And then people at parties come up to me and go “wow that’s so cool I’ll bet you have so much freedom.”

Being self employed right now is living life on the edge and always being “on”.
I love what I do usually but Self employed people know work way harder and longer than virtually anyone in a 9-5 job.
In fact, sometimes after a long day I envy those people.
Cost of living crisis is downstream of Obamacare. You feel it at the pump and grocery store because of the money stolen at the top of the paycheck, and it’s even worse if self-employed.

I hate being a downer but it’s hard for me to come up with any compelling reason, outside of fear mongering on culture war issues, to tell young people or anyone undecided to show up and vote Republican this year.
We lost our status as the anti-endless-war party. People can’t afford to live. Many good people in the admin have been kneecapped, fired, or left.
We are now the party of the Iran War and White House renovations.
Some good stuff has been done, but it hasn’t translated into a meaningful enough change in people’s day to day lives.
To top it all off, the only fresh candidate on our ballot here is….Darline Graham.
I won’t be disingenuous and try to push them to vote Republican when I myself don’t even currently have a good reason to vote Republican, and that’s a huge problem.
This gets to the politics of the Iran war. There were other structural issues driving up costs, the dollar is falling, the fraud, on and on. That’s why the timing of the war was catastrophic. Needed to wait.
