Pepe the Frog had a creator long before he had a chart
Pepe started as a laid-back frog drawn by cartoonist Matt Furie for his 2005 comic Boy’s Club. He shared an apartment with roommates Andy, Brett, and Landwolf, mostly hanging out and causing mischief.
The frog spread across the internet in the 2010s and became one of its biggest memes. Furie later went to court to stop others from misusing his character, and in 2019 Infowars agreed to pay him $15K over unauthorized Pepe posters.
$PEPE (
@pepecoineth) launched on Ethereum in April 2023 as a joke coin, with a supply of 420.69 trillion tokens.
Furie has never been involved with the memecoin, and the token’s website says it has “no association with Matt Furie or his creation, Pepe the Frog.”
